Alan Rickman said the same thing too..and probably a lot of other actors too..
He said that when he wears the black cloak, the wig, and everything, "in many ways it plays itself" ..he sort of "becomes" Snape when he puts on those outfits

I don''t know how the first Dumbledore would have fared later in the series as he was really old to begin with. I did like him, but I like Gambon better for some reason.
