Richard harris gave us the vibe that Dumbledore gave us in the books, michael gambon gave us the “the only wizard Voldemort feared “ vibe

Richard Harris's Dumbledore is the ONLY character to have EXACTLY matched my imagination from the books.

I prefer Harris too, he was more calm and polite, just like Dumbledore is supposed to be. But I have to say that the first time I saw Gambon, in the role, I didn't realize he was a different actor, since I didn't knew about Harris' death.

The way Gambon acted was totally on the director. He could've acted more calmly, couldn't he?

RIP Richard Harris (October 1, 1930 – October 25, 2002), aged 72
And
RIP Sir Michael Gambon (October 19, 1940 – September 27, 2023), aged 82
You both will be remembered as legends.

Richard Harris was a legend. He played Dumbledore’s character EXACTLY as it was described in the book and almost as if JK Rowling had Harris in mind when she sketched the character. His rendition was more Wise, calm, peaceful, smooth gentle and soft spoken compared to his replacement. It’s sad that he couldn’t play the role till the end Of the franchise.

Harris is who I imagine now when reading the books, he was perfect!

I liked both.
Harris portrayed the calm and wise grandpa figure that Harry relied to as a young, enthousiastic boy as he was when entering Hogwarts
But Gambon put energy and life into this figure and portrayed him a bit more like a tragic figure, his masterpiece being the ending of Half-Blood Prince

i actually think they both suited the intensity of the films they each acted in. harries played dumbledore as a cuddly and warm old man, just like harry saw him as a younger boy. when the story progresses and subsequently gets much darker and grown up and we find out more about dumbledore’s sad and sometimes questionable past, ours, as well as harry’s, perception of him changes. along with harry we realize that he’s just a man who’s trying his very best, and not this perfect, otherwordly being. michael gambon’s much harsher portrayal fits this new dumbledore who’s no longer just a cozy magic santa claus.

that being said, i do agree that richard harries was perfectly cast looks wise since he literally looks just like dumbledore is described in the books!

Harris is Dumbledore. Sorry Sir Harris, you will be remembered ever so fondly for these bloody movies. And The Count of Monte Cristo.

Richard Harris had the character and cadence of Dumbledore's voice. He always sounds as if he came right off the page, as if JK Rowling had him in mind when writing the part. Additionally, no one, but he, can go from gentle, and soft, to SILENCE! with such unforgettable tenor.

Gambon was a more aggressive and badass Dumbledore

Due to his performance in "The Half Blood Prince", I have to go with Gambon. You make a good case for Harris, but Gambon owned in HBP.

I don’t know how people didn’t notice the change. The moment I saw the new Dumbledore, I noticed the difference immediately. Completely different vibes. First actor was more soft spoken while the newer one was a little more energetic. Plus they look different lol

I don’t blame Gambon for being so harsh in the movie like I’m that scene in the Goblet of fire. That wasn’t his choice. He was most likely instructed by the producer to be harsh. I think Gambon is the best Dumbledore.
