DIY caulk siding, use your FINGER!

I'm prepping to paint my shed which means I need to caulk each nail. The basic idea is to cover each nail head so no water can get to the nail (to avoid rusting) and to make the penetration water proof so the wood doesn't soak up water and rot.

Caulk is made to fill cracks
Putty is made to fill holes

Wood filler is better for that. Caulk will shrink and you cam still the edge of the hole

This material is not made for holes,
Caulking is made for corners and covering long gated gaps, Trim, Ect.
It shrinks and expand's,
When put in a nail hole, and dryer it will shrink and leave a devid when painted,
May also leave a stan where painted,
Not recommend, the use of proper materials for the situation, makes your time and effort, more enjoyable.

And when you paint it all the extra caulk will show. Keep wet rag and wipe off

Wipe with the grain of the wood, not all willy nilly like you did

Latex caulking shrinks when it dries leaving a visible indentation.
You're better off using spackle or wood putty.

First of all the nails aren’t supposed to be countersunk below the surface
Of the siding. You can caulk it all you want but those holes will be the first to rot

Don't fill nail holes with caulk, especially not nail holes this big. It ends up looking terrible and the caulk will fall out over time. Use a product designed for that application. There is a reason they tell you not to use caulk for nail holes right there in the tube.
