great video dude I send this to people that I'm trying to train so they can kind of get an edge on what is to be expected when I put them to work, cuz some people it just clicks and I don't have to spend a shitload of time with them

I am painting my 1900 square foot home this weekend. I am using sherwin Williams everlast paint in dark blue. I am using a Graco X5 airless sprayer for the first time. I caulked a bunch last weekend but I didn’t do everything that you would. I just don’t have the patience to do it. Lol. But I got most of the stuff that really needed it. My wife will be helping. I am power washing tonight and then masking tomorrow and then we will start painting Saturday. The weather has been great here in Oklahoma and now it’s gonna be in the upper 80’s to low 90’s this weekend with wind gusts up to 16! It was supposed to be zero wind and cool but they changed it. Hopefully I don’t run into any issues and we can finish this weekend. Thanks for all the help you provide. I wouldn’t have had the first clue about what to due without your help.

Its interesting to see the finesse of your motions. Its clear you have done all this many times and your hands know exactly what to do in each situation.

Great video, Chris! I'm looking forward to the rest of this series. I do a lot of solo painting, too, and your tips have helped me a lot over the past couple of years.

When caulking the nail heads.... Use a putty knife and go against the grain of the wood so it will leave the grain In the caulked spot, wipe the edges smooth. Looks better than the messy finger wipe. And while we're on caulking... Why in the heck don't you use a good grade caulk like Vulkem ( Urethane base) or OSI ( oil base ) for the bigger gaps for better results, instead of backer rod and latex/acrylic caulk that doesn't have a good grab or elasticity. The caulk I mentioned above not only has a flex rate up to 1/4 " but when you run a clean bead (not fingering the caulk) it looks phenomenal! Also some of the caulk I mentioned has texture in it so when caulking on the surface you have less flashing because of that texture.

Ditto, ditto, ditto on new guys caulking around the entryway. The only thing worse is a new guy, young guy, who's also a relative so you're cautious about giving guidance. : )

Seriously though, this is especially true with the newer, more dynamic, flexing caulks that protect you from splitting. These caulks are great, but they skin over into a rubbery texture that is very hard to sand off and redo. The skin tends to coagulate faster into a granular texture that doesn't smooth well. Hot weather, hot storage amplifies these qualities. Lastly, because of it's flex, it's not as good for smoothing over glops with vinyl or other fillers, unless it's touching a short run of siding that won't move. When you sell that house the entry experience sets the tone. When you wife has friends over to see the new wallpaper, same thing.

thank you very much for your useful tips and advices

Love it. Here in Aus we use a bucket of water and a damp cloth to get level 5 caulking lines and surface cleanliness, maybe you do this in USA too? Or our caulks are of a different consistency.

It would help if the number sequence was in the title. As this is #2. I'm not getting to the right videos in order. Thanks for sharing, I appreciate this information. Could I ask "Would you ever put down two or more coats of paint on a house"?

As a novice observer, I'm wondering "if caulking joints creates issues with defining edges when you finally paint?" Caulking seems to blend sharp edges into one, fluid seam. How do you approach a soft seam between two, distinct colors? Don't you worry about caulk beads affecting the final color? Painting a caulked surface is a lot different than painting a primed, wood surface, right? Caulking also is time consuming and raises the potential for not caulking everything uniformly. You may forget to caulk a window top seam or didn't do one side exactly like the other side of a house. I'd love to see the ugliness of really having repairs in the prep stages. I'm talking like rotted, exterior corners under eaves or on visible areas that have been compromised by water or sun damage. Hundred year old homes must be very challenging and expensive for painters that don't estimate properly. Sorry, just so many details I'm curious about. At least you'll never run out of new topics for videos.

Hmmm, just seems like an overkill on the caulk. Those beads seem huge and the finger smearing make them even larger. Sometimes less is better.

this would take a whole day to caulk so i would just do taping and caulking, caulking around spots that are hard to get and taping the rest.

Mr. Chris, you mention expansion and contraction on this artificial fascia, but what about real wood… would you refrain from caulking joining areas on wood also? Thx for these videos! I’m getting prepared! because of your info THX!

Impressive prep work. - Should we spray the walls with water if not a power wash first? Thanks for the video.
