I've gotten all my jobs so far from friends who went "oh, you're looking for a job? I can push your CV to my boss if you want".

My current job in tech is pretty bottom of the barrel (I'm an assistant to the system administrator at a k-8 charter school), but I can share how I got it because I flat out asked my boss one day. He said, "well, I mean honestly you didn't have the experience I was looking for, but only 4 people applied. One didn't submit the cover letter, the other didn't submit their resume, and the third one had a degree in computer science, but couldn't even tell me what software they used to clone HDDs at their last job. We had to fill the position fast, and you were the only person we could find that wasn't an idiot."

You don't have to be perfect, you just have to be the best lol XD

One reason connections are so important, is that finding employees is time consuming and expensive. If you are hiring, and you know someone who is interested, you can skip the first steps of the recruitment and go straight to the interviews.

A friend who worked in HR for a screening company once called me to ask what a CMS was, as she was hiring CMS developers. I said, how are you going to pick candidates if you don't know what it is? She said oh, we mostly look for keywords, then we screen out the obvious psychos. So.. use the right buzzwords in your resume, and don't be a psycho ;)

I'm 15 and I think it is really good that I got this kinda head start because I wanted to prepare to get a job in a tech field and literally no-one around me new anything about tech jobs. The best advice I heard was from a video game developer at Blizzard who said it's better to have already created a working game (or application, ect) to say "I am a developer this is what I can do" instead of "I want to be a developer"

It helped be get a job during lockdown

I think you're thinking of Harvard's CS50 course and CS50 AI. I'm in the process of taking that myself, it's such a well-thought-out course. The lectures are better than any lecture I've had at my current college.
