I was 100% convinced you were just gonna start playing smoke on the water

Exercises like this were a must during my bachelor’s degree in classical guitar (you can get away without good technique in other styles, but not solo guitar). Scott Tennant has some incredibly enriching independence exercises that even pop players should do.

interesting. I can somewhat do it, although there is a slight bounce in the string when i do. surprising, since i have super weak hands overall, and have been playing for only 4 months

I used to be that 90% but after a year of playing guitar I tried piano and that’s what gave me more finger control.

Even my toe moves when I move my ring finger

Oh and I'm from Iowa. I think Corey Taylor would be embarrassed by me but unlike him I'm from the Tri-state of Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota. I am the Midwest. I don't think he ever showed his face in Sioux City? 512? I'm from the 712 in Iowa. I can step a foot in 3 states at the same time and drown in Missouri River. I love Slipknot though, they obviously made it a lot further than I did

. Thou I was in 10th grade when Iowa hit as an album. And that was pretty Epic...

Yay, I can do it! But... I still suck :-( Back to practice!

As a classical guitarist this is basically a necessity

Shit now everyone knows I can't play, including myself.

Wow I’m shocked! Finally something on the guitar that is difficult for other people that I can actually do incredibly easily. remember guys, you can’t get too much independence with your third and fourth finger because of the unique way that they are structurally bound together.

I can do it pretty easily... but i'm not even near to your level so i have to keep practicing

Yes, I can do it, because I practice it a lot. In the beginning it feels impossible, but with time everybody can do it.
Thanks Bernth

once upon a time guitar was the love of my life. Then I broke a bunch of bones in both of my hands and now life sucks.

i love how he breaks down very tiny details that can really make the difference. Achieving good skills on guitar is one thing, but being able to be aware of how they come to be and then putting it forward to a student is just next level

I was honestly suprised on how easy it was for me i thought i was going to have such a hard time. Time to go practicing on being less unsure about myself ans my skills

Before the nerve damage, I could do that. These days? I'm doing good to still play! But I've got back to 90BPM and I'm starting to fingerpick again!

I gotta say....you cover a lot with a open, honest approach....and yes I can do this....first year training...lol

I can do that no problem.
What's trickier is to start with the 3rd & 4th fingers NOT on the strings,
then press on & off with the 3rd finger without the 4th finger moving, & vice-versa.
Doesn't apply to other finger combinations - I think the 3rd & 4th share a tendon or something. 🤔

Ok, guess I'm the first to say that I absolutely can't move my index finger without moving the middle one. Is something wrong with me? I play guitar for over 2 years now.

Damn I can’t even try this anymore. I lost the tip of my left ring finger and got used to mainly playing with only my first, middle, and pinky fingers. I can still use my ring finger with chords tho
