I will never ever tire of Robin venting his frustrations about employers. I appreciate his honest takes on things, and frankly, the man's just funny. I wonder what video he'll be posting on his channel this week...

I once applied for a job that required 8+ years experience with a programming language.
Trouble was, that language had been available for only about 3 years at the time...

A job listing putting "back injury" in quotation marks like that tells me that it's physically demanding work where you're not going to be given the right gear for the job and they will 100% fight tooth and nail to not pay for medical leave when repetitive strain injuries inevitably happen.

My least favourite thing a boomer can say to a younger person who is trying to apply for jobs is "You just gotta keep hitting the pavement" and insist you need to get a paper application in order to get hired, the concept of everything being paperless and online makes them think You, the person applying is lazy.

Okay here is a good one. Tried putting in for my dad’s friends company as a project accountant. I have my Masters in accounting. Turned down. He tells me two months later with the most “I am so sorry” expression ever that it was he feared I’d leave as soon as another offer came along. Mind you that job pays the same that my current job does. The person he did hire instead claimed they knew the system, which I didn’t but admitted that, and wasted their time for two months before they had to hire a new person.

I’ve also been rejected because they said my Masters makes me overqualified for even entry level. Yes, I have a Masters degree, but I needed more work experience.

I hate when older generations say, after submitting an application, to just walk in or call back to get the ball rolling. At my first job, if someone came in to speak to the manager or called in regards to their application, the manager would immediately throw it away.

I tried applying to work at car washes that were offering between $17-$20 an hour. They were Club Car Wash and Splash Car Wash mostly. All of them came back with a "you do not meet the qualifications to work here."
What qualifications does one need to work at a car wash? Bear in mind that these weren't managers positions either. They were the basic jobs like the people who check you in to the line or the people who wave you in so that your tires line up with the track on the ground.

Even worse than that tattoo thing is the way they treat back injuries like a conspiracy theory. 100% going to have you handling loads in unsafe ways, and blame you when it destroys your body.

My aunt in her mid 60s went back to work and despite having decades worth of experience, it didn’t mean shit. She was stuck at a dead end job where she could’ve run circles around her coworkers but she was too red-taped to be able to move up or get a better position. All because she didn’t have a degree.

Edit: not to mention she was probably discriminated against for her age. She was incredibly intelligent, smart, and looked younger than she was! She could’ve done so much more. She passed away 1.5 years into that job, two states away from her friends and family

One recruiter suggested that I remove or hide a degree or two from my CV when I apply for jobs. It will make me look "not over qualified, yet under experienced". They said that you should either remove degrees, certificates, and even some job experiences when you apply for other jobs, so that you look more "desirable" for that particular place you are applying for.
6:58 For the tattoo thing, the worst part about that is, they would be more accepting of men with tattoos, but not women.

Americans companies will set unachievable standards, make miserable working conditions, not pay workers enough, make hiring and keeping your job a complete pain to do, and than they have the audacity to pretend young people are just lazy and don't want to work as if they're not the problem.

As a non American this is utterly amazing and horrific.

It is nice to hear someone else be upset while I am out here struggling to get hired.

So I’m looking for internships/first year jobs rn, and I swear, every “entry” level position required multiple years of experience 😢

11:00 If you get that job offer and start date in writing, you might have a case for what's called detrimental reliance. They promised you a job, you relied on that promise of a job and quit your old one, and then suffered a loss when they reneged. You can then usually claim damages for that. Same for if you move closer to your upcoming job, or drop the classes you were taking, etc.

That garbage collector thing is a serious issue. I feel like the main reason parents tell their kids to be willing to put into debt and work to death for the rest of their working years is so that THEY (who had it much easier) can have BRAGGING RIGHTS over their friends saying "my child just became an engineer and makes $15/hr " instead of saying "my son just became a garbage collector and makes $15/hr)

Except the difference here is that the engineer is in more debt than the garbage collector which makes him POORER.

Just recently got denied for a Saturday job at a convenience store. Apparently I did great in the interview, but wasn’t chosen due to lack of experience in retail. I have no idea how I’m gonna get experience if I can’t even get a saturday job due to lack of experience.

Good lord. Never before have I related so much to a subreddit so much. Hundreds of jobs applied for, most of which I was ghosted, and I have to deal with my mom CONSTANTLY nagging at me to "Apply for more jobs", "Change up your resume again", and "You need to get a full-time job, you are going to be off our insurance plan", "If you actually GOT a full-time job you could pay to live in an apartment."

SHE IS THE REASON THAT WHEN I MOVE OUT I'M GOING NO CONTACT AND GETTING

I felt that graphic at the end.
Australia has a really nasty unemployment benefits system, have to apply for a certain number of jobs each month, have to physically go into the city for a face to face meeting every fortnight where they just mark you present then you leave, and if you don't get a job fast enough you're sentenced to community service right alongside drunk drivers and the like.

I've applied for thousands of jobs, occasionally getting temporary work but nothing long term.

It's so much more work than having a job is, and on top of everything you're always worried about what the next change in the unemployment benefits is going to bring and just hoping you manage to get enough worked hours in the year to avoid the community service sentencing.

(A lot of the 'community service' requirements aren't met by doing actual community service, they do things like dump a bunch of rice on the floor and get you to pick it up, or get a whole bunch of beads and glitter from a craft store, mix it all up, and get you to sort it out.
You're lucky of you get told to pick up rubbish by the road, at least that is a real thing that needs doing.)

Bonus info, Australia offers a tax rebate for business that hire someone off unemployment for the first few months, depending on the industry the business can claim up to 100% of the wages.
Also there are currently 26 unemployed Australian's for every job opening.
So the usual practice for businesses is to hire someone for a few months, get the government to pay for it, and when the tax rebate runs out, fire them and hire someone else to start it over again.

I have a theory as to why companies ask for so much info about your family/family's history is because they're feeding it through some sort of algorithm, or A.I., that's taking in that information to try and determine your "history". I think I remember a story where a resume consultant...advisor...person who helps people better structure their resume said to put down that they played lacrosse in high school to help at least land an interview. The reasoning being that the company was using an A.I. to scan resumes to single out more "desireable" applicants. But, the reference resumes that were given to the A.I. where from decades of hiring *_rich_* white people who most likely would have played lacrosse in high school.

Again, just a theory from a story I may be half remembering. But companies trying to obtain as much of your personnel history instead of you academic/working history in order to determine if you fit their idea of what a good employee via an automated system sounds like something they'd do.

The request for a drawing is probably a trick question to see who is actually reading all the directions and isnt an auto fill bot. Like those tests at school that say read all directions carefully before you begin the test only to find out the very last question says write your name and flip it over for a 100

That sort of thing is also why you hear stories about musical artists having super weird requests for their room. Like a bowl full of Skittles with all the green ones picked out. It's a test to see who's actually doing their job.
