Two things about this video. First when you are comparing a T9 with an internal drive, you are comparing apples with oranges. Yes an internal drive is a lot faster, but you don't move internal drives between computers. Every computer that I know of that you can plug an external drive into, also has an internal drive. Second that 180gb cache is only on the 4tb drive. The 2Tb drive cache is more like 50gb. I use external drives to transfer files between computers, I do not have a network. How many people really need or want a 4tb external drive. Some I am sure, but very few.

It'd be interesting if you tested SSD M2 enclosures that offer Thunderbolt/USB 4 connection. They are priced around $100-150. They may easily be used with cheaper SSDs that offer up to 3000 MB/s and fully utilize the speed.

I always prefer a good external enclosure than a full on external drive.
So a good TB4 40gb drive enclosure costs around $120
A 4TB nvme costs between $180 to $277 depending on pice gen3 or 4.
TeamGroup offers 4TB gen3 TLC at $174 adding both they ended up costing the same but the TB4 enclosure is waaay faster.
PLUS if someday you need a NAS or cache for your PC, you can always dismatle the drive and upgrade it to another drive.

Why do you compare with internal, 10 min of this video should be removed !!!

Good info on the T9 but comparing it to internal SSD was really pointless…. It would have been better if you compared it to other external SSDs from other brands.

Macs does not support USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 20GBps
Macs only support USB3.2 Gen2 10GBps and Thunderbolt3 4/USB4 40Gbps
.. So on a mac its going to go down to 10GBps (around 1000 MBps) .
Best just to build NVME enclosures. I have 10GBps and 40GBps and they work great and cheap.

Great video. I have an Dell Aurora R11, is there a card you can recommend to install that will improve my USB-C capabilities and speeds?

That means for Mac users with type C, T9 is slower than other laptops .

Hi Tech Notice, I'm only after subscribing a day or 2 ago and glad to see this video.

Previously I was considering getting this T9 purpose-built USB-C or Crucial X10 Pro. Lately, I was told that it's always best to make your own custom drive and place it into a USB-C enclosure because there are much larger and faster buffer sizes with custom-made SSDs. So that led me to consider using the Acasis TBU 405 Pro enclosure with the Lexar NM790 which you highly praised as beating the Samsung 990 Pro m.2 NVMe. So what are your thoughts... T9 / X10 Pro or something custom-built?

This is what I was told in my latest research:
"The big difference from one drive to the next is the size of the buffer and the speed of the underlying NAND flash memory that is ultimately used to store the data. Cheaper drives will have smaller buffers and slower NAND. The cheapest drives might have a tiny buffer (or none) and slow NAND, while the most expensive solutions might have a huge buffer and fast NAND.
For most any non-bargain basement NVMe drive, it's likely to perform better than many of the purpose-built USB-C drives."

Acasis 40Gbps M.2 Nvme SSD Enclosure (today it costs $99.90 - Christmas Special Offer) + SSD would be a better solution.

Hi!! Always great to catch up with your videos! So looking into the T9 is still better to build an USB4 nvme external case with a Nvme inside? Thanks, cheers.

@tech notice very informative review - especially for Mac users - would the speeds that Samsung claim be achievable if this T9 drive were to be plugged into a Thunderbolt 4 port on an Intel NUC 13 Pro running Windows 11? It's marginally cheaper to buy than building a thunderbolt 4 nvme enclosure with a 2TB Gen 4 SSD here in Australia (A$370 vs A$430)

I've seen a few reviews of this T9 out recently but so far nobody has said why it's any better than the 4TB SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD I've been using for over a year now, which is also USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 and rated for 2000MB/s..?

It's SSD so what's the Tbw rating?

I Bought Samsung T9 and excited to transfer a bunch of photos from my iPhone 15pm but every time I transfer photos and videos there's always a copy of IMG file that cannot open and its file size is only 4kb and also has a same file name of the photos that I copied.... could you tell what it is...??? or Do I need to do something... It's really annoying I transfer 1000 photos and there's also 1000 copies of blank files with a file size of 4kb each sorry but I'm not techie hope someone helps... I tried to google it but can't find it...

Great vid! The main reason for my want of the T9 over T7 is due to a larger cache for bigger files, However, I want the 2Tb and not the 4Tb and have seen that the cache is still the same as T7 so no real point? also is this true, I cannot find anywhere or am smart enough to know/understand tests haha

@Tech Notice Great video. Due to the 2000 Mbps read/write speeds, do the faster read/write speeds allow watching movies directly off the external ssd to be more efficient? (when plugged into a USB C 3.2 gen 2x2 port).

might be the SanDisk Professional 2TB PRO-G40 a good option for my macbook m3 max?

Can you please compare with sandisk extreme pro and say which is the best option
