Just in case you don't know, when you make a screenshot of a window on Mac with CMD-Shift-4 + drag, simply hit SPACE after CMD-Shift-4 instead of dragging, and the cursor will change for camera. You can then choose the window you want to copy with your mouse.

Hi Jerad, I want to buy an SSD of 2 TB, just only for the storage purpose. I want it to run for the longer period of time, without getting into too much of the heating and data loss issue, what do you suggest apart from making it a custom one.

Are nvme/ssds good for long term storage or should I be using the big and bulky HDDs ?

How come, you’re not testing something like an Acasis thunderbolt Gen 3 or 4 enclosure with a FireCuda SSD M.2 530 DVMe? The read and write speeds are three times plus faster than any of the SSDs you just tested. I’m using a 2018 Mac book pro with a 6-core Intel processor. Just curious...

Nice Thanks
What are the storage speeds of Samsung S23 Ultra ?
So can get something little faster than it, to make it future proof, don't want something slower
When will they launch Samsung T9 ❓️

Time stamps for each drive would have saved a lot of time but thanks for the video!

1. The data loss issues of Sandisk Extreme portable SSD is not addressed in this video.

2. There is a overheating issue in Samsung T7 which is also not addressed.

3. There is the blinking light indicator in Samsung which is not present in Sandisk

The USB port of your MacBook is not explained?, was it faster USB 3.2 (2 Gen) or older USB 3.0 port of 5/GBPS speed. You should run the test again on older MacBooks with 5/GBPS speed USB 3.0 port to it can be compared for majority of the Mac users.

I think what users care mostly about is the reliability, if it’s not reliable, don’t waste time on the speed, what the use of a disk if it’s fast but has data loss?

I own an "old gen" 1050 MB/s sandisk extreme pro 1TB and my speed numbers are way higher than yours (easily above advertised speeds). Weird. I am very happy with that drive. It does not heat and is consistent in read and write. Once thr bew gen 2000 MB/s 2TB price comes down a bit, i will get it

Which External SSD drive would you recommend for a mid 2014 13'' macbook pro. Thanks

Thanks for this video. I have the Samsung T7 Shield and a MacBook Pro M1 Max (looks to be the same as your Mac) and while I don't get the Read speeds as low as yours my Write speeds are 860 MB/s and Read speeds are 701 MB/s consistently. I formatted it as APFS which is what Samsung recommends for Mac. I found out the problem. I saw a couple of videos of people with recent model PC laptops that were getting the full 1050 MB/s advertised speed and it was frustrating since I have a very powerful Mac with TB4 ports. But that's the issue. After deeper research it was discovered that the port on your computer has to be USB 3.2 Gen 2 which is the advertised design of this drive. Samsung doesn't mention this. I called them and their technician didn't even know and blamed Apple, of course. While TB4 ports are backwards compatible the only way to achieve the full advertised speed is the port has to be exactly USB 3.2 Gen 2. You won't get your full money's worth otherwise.

I'm keeping the drive since I'm using it for Time Machine but it's best to have a TB4 enclosure and use an M.2 SSD to get your money's worth.

I just bought my first laptop have not had a laptop since my compaq desktop died and bought a dell back in 2004.I have a MacBook Air M1 base model I used it for browsing, watching movies, I went back to school, and I use it for my college classes for Zoom for online classes, writing papers on Microsoft word, watching videos and lectures on PowerPoint, also PDFS.I have to upload my documents onto my schools upload site, which is blackboard since I’m using Microsoft Word I have to browse my computer to find the file so I always have to make a copy of the file and save it to the blue files folder. I do that on the tablet and also on the computer, but I am looking for an external hard drive. I am returning the school iPad and I’m by myself a new one and I need to get all the information I have on the iPad seventh generation off and saved, and I also want to back up my Mac air and one what time machine I especially want to get the photos off an old iCloud. is there an external hard drive that would be compatible with my iPhone 13, iPad seventh generation it’s updated. It just did not take the last update since it has only 32 GB of internal storage and my MacBook Air M1 which has 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal I am only using about 40 GB of internal and about 3 1/2 to 4 GB of RAM. The iPad is maxed out completely with internal storage I really could use a recommendation. I was looking at the Westin digital ultra passport for the Mac SSD or HDD. Bye the way your video is great. Thanks so much for the information but I’m confused so any help would be great.😊

Format the T7 shield to APFS and you will get the 1000mb/s speeds.
Exfat is good if you want to use drive between windows and Mac but as you see alot slower performance.

Do you know when an "8TB" portable SSD will be available?

Speeds are all generally great. The issue with SSD's is reliability could be very random.
Only suggestion would be to always, always back up everything. Save yourself headaches and stress. 👍👍
