I don't mind the nail painting bit because first, it sets up the idea that Andy is good with women because they are around her trailer so she can make the deal with Dean which is important to the plot, but also femininity isn't inherently anti-feminist. You're allowed to like "girly" things and still be a feminist. I like how the movie doesn't demonize femininity in the process of promoting a feminist message.

Fun bit of trivia: the actress that played Andi thought she'd be wearing a wig for the short hair then found out she was expected to actually cut her hair after filming had started. Kudos to her for going for it and rocking it!

The movies with the best feminist message are very natural about it
They’re not so up your ass with “THIS IS A FEMINIST MOVIE!!!”

Both Moto-crossed and She's the Man are based on Shakespeare's play Twelfth Night, arguably one of his most feminist text. In fact, most of the names of characters and locations from She's the Man are taken directly from the play. I think you're right in part that She's the Man wouldn't exist with without Moto-Crossed because it should that such a feminist story could be successful. Can't wait to see more DCOM reactions!

Loved this movie when I saw it as a kid! When I watch it now, I still love it. Only thing is that now I definitely pick up white conservative christian family vibes…sons to traditionally masculine things and daughter does traditionally feminine things, Dad sits at the head of the table, praying before dinner, you can tell Mom doesn’t have the level of authority that Dad does, and Dad is a total no-nonsense, no-fun stiff. It’s cringey in that regard, but the mom does give off the vibe that she’s open-minded to more liberal ways of thinking, which is nice.

As a motocross racer myself since I was 7 this movie pissed me off so much because they really made it seem like it was so frowned upon that girls race with the guys lol in all my years of racing never once saw any issue with it if anything it was encouraged it was just if you raced with the guys their wasn’t any special treatment. Like that one scene in this movie she goes out on the track and gets knocked down for no reason and guy comes back and says “chicks” was so over the top and would never happen lol

She's the Man has always been one of my favorite retellings because Twelfth Night is my favorite Shakespeare play. I hadn't realized that the success of Motocrossed paved the way for the making of She's the Man though, so that's an interesting side note.

This has been my favorite Disney movie since it came out

I was 9 when this came out, didn't even realize it was a "feminist" movie because, 1. I didn't even know/care what feminism was. 2. It wasn't forced onto the viewer like 99% of Hollywood Feminists movies are these days. It's a shame a feminist movies today can't be like this one, I'd actually consider watching them if they were.

You should watch Right On Track. That dcom is just as feminist if not more so (it’s based on the real first female drag racers), and it’s one of my favorites

I like that this is a pro feminist message but it’s not toxic feminist like you might find in modern day. I also like that it’s not all in your face about it forcing the message down your throat but rather more focused on telling a good story.

This movie always stood out to me as a kid. It wasn't because it is feminist. I just thought the movie rocked and I wanted to do motocross for like a good year after it.

I remember that movie. It didn't leave a mark as big as "She's the Man" but it's really good too.

Loved this movie as a kid! A strong contender for my favorite DCOM maybe??? Idk I’d have to think about it—Brink is way up there for me too and has a strong nostalgia factor but this might hold up better.
