For those who don't know, these basic circuits when combined can be formed into complex programs. It is what makes cgi, simulations, video games, user interface, the output of the screen you're watching from right now, makes these all possible. These circuits are very basic. But make billions of them, connect them logically into a functioning program and you have software.

Edit: Correction, the circuits don't really change. They're fixed. But they do act like switches. And depending on the code, switching certain circuits on or off creates software. Switches that are on are designated as ones, and those that are off are designated as zeroes. 1s and 0s. Binary. Thanks to the guy who replied for pointing that out. The wiring stays fixed, but the switches are changed to create different programs.
