We need to talk about Rudy Gobert. For whatever reason, people don't view him as an elite NBA player but Joe Ingles (The Utah Jazz) and JJ Redick (ESPN) talk about why they think he's so under-appreciated among media and fans.

As a Jazz fan the fact that we are every year a top 10 defense with Clarkson, Ingles, Bojan and Donovan in the lineup just proves how great Rudy is defensively

I'm gonna say this as a statement of fact, Gobert has a way WAY higher chance of being a piece on a championship team than Mitchell does. Rudy can be a complimentary piece playing at an all time level in his role, Donovan can lead a team to the playoffs but he cannot play his role to a high enough level to win it all.

Defensive specialist never get the respect they deserve just look at Ben Wallace took him years to get in the h.o.f and he's one of the best to ever do it defensively

Draymonds quote finished with him saying “maybe 50% of people understand what’s going on, on the defensive end of the floor”. in all honesty it’s a lot less then 50% like they said in the podcast “the real ones know”.

Gobert is actually good for the NBA because he weeds out the casuals from actual basketball fans. He might not be flashy on offense, but he's an elite defensive center who sets some of the best screens in the league, which is a big part of the offense as well. Only casuals want Rudy to have a full post game and a jump shot. I'd rather he play elite level defense and set monster screens to allow the other offensive minded players to work freely.

This comment section is dumb lol. Rudy is elite, people just don't think he is because he doesn't work well in certain matchups.

Rudy faces a perfect storm for being underrated: 1) he's huge, so people disregard his actual talents, esp. his footwork 2) Americans underrate foreign-born players in general, and disrespect the French in particular, 3) he's a defensive monster which doesn't translate well to stat sheets, 4) he made one joke to the media that ended up being a ridiculously poor-judgment moment, 5) there are a couple of specific team matchups that make him look terrible at the thing he's great at, and 6) at the same time as all of this, there's a fatigue level with him after winning DPOY so many times in a row. If he has a Finals MVP type series I think he could turn it around but it really will take that.

THANK YOU!!!! He is not only a top 3 center but he is going to go down as one of the greatest defensive centers of all time if not the greatest defensive center of all time🤷🏽‍♂️

Rudy Gobert is #1 in the NBA in Win Shares. He's #4 in the NBA in OFFENSIVE win shares. Anyone who doesn't realize how dominant Rudy has been this year has close to no clue what they're talking about.

There will always be a debate on this Man. U can’t deni he’s valuable but u can also watch how smooth he is defensivly. The 2019 France vs USA (team C) was just dominant basketball for rudy and u can see he was the best player on the court. I dont think ppl will remember him as a great of the era but he will be in the HOF so it’s ok.

As a blazer fan and having a team with the best offensive rating last year but the worst defense. I can tell you that defense is more important

It's amazing to me how much hate the Timberwolves are getting. They just combined the best defensive player in the league and the best shooting big man of all time.

They might not win it all but mad respect to them for trying, some casual talking heads are gonna have some big apologies to make come next playoffs.

Perhaps we should just list the points defenders stopped so that people understand their impact. Ex: Golbert stopped 35 points in tonight’s game.

NBA media is just gonna do this same old song and dance of polishing Gobert’s jock and then acting dumbfounded when he gets played off the floor in the postseason.
