The power of boredom

Reminds me of 'The Social Dilemma, ' there's basically an industry trying to create a version of you based on what you click and spend time on, which explains the consistent surge of advertisement of something you looked into. If we don't consciously take a hold of what we spend focus on, we will altogether lose and forget what it means to focus in the first place. Man is losing the most important edge it is given. Let's put our phone and gadgets down and engage with our environment.

Currently reading "deep work", what Subhoor said is bang on. Rather then taking a break with my phone, I just sit in silence now a days when I have my 15 minute break.

Thanks Ahmad, I've left fb scrollings for about 2 years and feels like I got some extra space and time to control my thinking.

Couldn't agree more. Spot on. This dopamine addiction is more detrimental to us than most people realize. If someone wants a glimpse, try sitting alone without any gadget for an hour. Most people will find it virtually impossible.

SubhanAllah, no wonder some days go by and we’ve barely achieved anything, it’s because we were stuck in an endless loop of trying to regain focus

It turns out that in our time if one wants to engage in Jehadul Nafs we better start off from here, because if we don’t master boring ourselves (dopamine detox) then we effectively have no discipline, and without discipline we won’t be able to achieve many things in this life

Jazak Allahu Khair for this much needed reminder :)

Game-changing advice, especially during this holy month of Ramadhan. Powered off my computer / TV / cellphone, read out loud + recited Juz 'Amma; Al hamdulillah 😁
Truly impacted my focus. Jazak Allahu Khayran brother Subboor

Very true. That is the reason when i go to uni i commute for 1 hour i will be totally disctraction free and can focus the whole day. But when i am studying from home with the distractions i cannot focus for even 5 minutes.

Very useful!
We need more videos on this as this topic is crucial and everyone should realise how these apps and algorithms are actually harming us and taking away so much from us.

Subboor I hope you answer this question:

I now decided to reduce as much as I can spending time on social media, and digitals in general.

But I know that probably after couple of weeks I will return to my bad habit.

How can I sustain this strong will that I currently have?

this video served as a decent distraction lol. Excellent message but we need to take practical steps to make a change after receiving this kind of information. Most of us will not. Like with anything, most people know that being distracted takes away from their ability to focus on a given task - studies such as these (more information can be found in Cal Newport's book "Deep Work" and his content more generally) serve as confirmation of what we already know. There is a massive gap between what we know and what we do. If we've learned one thing in the information age, it's that.
