I'm an RN and these type of patients are way more common than you think. They think we are their servants. The reason he is waiting is probably because no one wants to come in his room. His arms work - turn your own light off.

My goodness he shouldn’t talk to people like that. My appreciation for Dr for saying so

He is a master manipulator. This behavior is very common in the ER and inpatient settings. We can be coding a child, and every hand is in there working on it, you still have patients that think their needs are more important. I'm so tired of people saying nurses are lazy bc they will not respond immediately. Nevermind that in some states there are no patient maximum for nurses, meaning that a nurse could be assigned 8 patients in an acute setting. This behavior makes everyone exhausted. This patient was discharged shortly after this conversation.

We don't put up with that sh*t in TX. Manners and mutual respect go hand in hand.

I’m a nurse and I can tell u that we don’t run to the rooms where we know we r gonna be treated like crap. Looks like his heart was being monitored and his yelling told everyone he was alive so. Nurses r not waitresses, drug pushers or whipping poles. They r well educated dedicated humans who render aid to the sick. Being over weight and angry is not a reason to abuse the staff.

Nurses do not make enough money to deal with people like this.

The level of entitlement hit the roof. how do you become dependent on other ppl and still think you can be a bully!? His parents should be ashamed of themselves bring up a 32 yr old male who acts like a child

It’s so sad to see any worker treated with disrespect. Shame on this man.

When I stayed in the hospital after my c-section I always made sure to be polite to the staff. Their job isn't easy and any care they provide for me I'm thankful for. They are not your slave! Please, thank you and kindness goes a long way!

I've had extensive bowel surgeries due to auto immune diseases and I have NEVER EVER, treated hospital staff like survents. I had a beautiful nurse named Faruse who was a Muslim woman who on a daily was treat horrible. She came into my room for my regular schedule medication and I asked her to sit down on the foot of my bed and take 5 minutes and as she sat down she broke down, as did it. In the moment we were 2 broken women that found comfort in eachothers company. We hugged and cried, and for 5 years I was in and out of the hospital and I always had her as my nurse during her shifts. I always tried to make my hospital room a safe space for my nurses. Most of my nurses would come do their charting in my room cause it was cool, calm, and quiet. It doesn't take much to be a kind person and boy it would be have been harder to be an asshole rather than being kinda and compassionate. I had my entire large intestine removed, my rectum, and anal opening closed, than complications that caused the loss of 3 foot of small bowel. This started when I was 26. Im now 34. I had every reason to be mad at the world, but it wasn't the world's fault that my body had and keeps trying to kill me haha.

I'm glad this made it to the public. Sheds alot of light on what "enabling" can lead to!!

I remembered a patient who was previously ambulatory before his family visited all of a sudden called me asking for a foot rub/massage. I said, "I'm your nurse not your masseuse, do it yourself and besides you were just downstairs smoking and you walked down there, so your feet and arms work fine. Good day". Soon after he fired me as his nurse and my day got even better. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

He’s right he’s in Texas. that nurse will come in the room and turn all the lights on then tell him to get up and shut them off before leaving 😭😂

I've been in the hospital so many times, even for months at a time. They never ignore my calls because I'm not a dick to them. In fact they tend to go above and beyond. They have used their own money to bring in things from the outside to surprise me and have been literal life savors. He needs to grow up, you're right Dr!
