What you said about the Protestants is only half of the truth. They also believe in sanctification after justification which is becoming more Christ-like through the continual work of the Holy Spirit in us.

Protestants most definitely DO believe this. We just look at it in different terminology. Salvation and sanctification. Salvation comes by faith in what Jesus did on the cross, sanctification is what Christ is doing within us to make us more like Christ. Faith and works go hand in hand In salvation and justification.

You forgot to mention regeneration, where for protestants true salvation is a work of the Holy Spirit not of man. The holy spirit transforms the person within changing their affections and desire towards God.

As someone who attends a Baptist church I can tell you that EVERYONE would agree that they are a work in progress, even though we have been SAVED BY FAITH THROUGH GRACE. We are made into a "New Creature" but we are constantly learning and growing. The term "Babes in Christ" is a reference to how one must grow into this New Creature after being SAVED.

Protestants believe in something called sanctification where if you truly believe in Christ The Holy Spirit will overtime make you more Christ-like and as you grow in Christ you will for example conquer addiction or become more generous or so fourth. The end of sanctification to my understanding is death where we will be with Christ some have short sanctification some have long lives filled with a longer journey. This is where works come in. It's the belief that if you truly love God your life will reflect it.

The part that you said ' not inner transformation... ' is wrong. Protestants believe that even if justification is by faith alone through the person and work of Christ alone, they also emphasis that when God justifies us, it means god replaced our stone with heart of flesh which wants to grow in holiness and christlikeness. They say they are born as a new creature ( 2 cori 5:17 ) and changed from the inside to obey God and his word.

Protestants do not have a single unified view of Justification. It is mainly amongst Calvinists where the Legalistic definition is applied.

Protestants believes faith that doesn't bear fruit isn't saving faith. We believe that saving faith will produce a yearning for a deeper relationship with God and to live according to His will.

The works come after salvation, as we are repeatedly told in the NT.

As a Calvinist, I believe everything that was presented as the Orthodox position. The difference is that the Orthodox do not believe what was presented as the Protestant position.

Complacency - Orthodox or Protestant - on this issue is what leads to spiritual lethargy and death. Theory is never enough whatever posit one holds.

I don't know if I agree with the representation of the Protestant idea. Honestly I think we have similar beliefs on the matter, just using different terms.

I, and I think many Protestants, would generally say that you are saved upon accepting and/or confessing Christ as your Lord and Saviour, and that sanctification (the inner transformation) follows, but you are already saved before sanctification is obviously evident or complete.

If the outer transformation is a prerequisite for salvation, then most of the Orthos and Catholics I debate online are in trouble, since they definitely don't manifest any holiness, other than being holier-than-thou. That isn't a dig at all Orthos, this channel has actually been pretty good as far as I've seen.

“knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭2‬:‭16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

If you don’t have an ongoing inner transformation as a believer, there’s no justification! We’re declared righteous by Christs work on the cross alone then God begins to sanctify from within.

Correct summary of protestant model of Justification. On top of this many protestants will emphasize that we are transformed by God in the process of sanctification into the image of Christ as a benefit of salvation. Salvation to a protestant (idk about Orthodox) is much more than justification, and some groups will emphasize that it is primarily adoption.

As someone who has been Protestant for years (but researching more into orthodoxy and Catholicism) I have never agreed or believed in faith alone, which is pretty much what you just described they believe. Which I would say is pretty accurate

just one of many reasons I came back into the embrace of the Orthodox church after decades of wondering
