FRANCE 24’s Gulliver Cragg reports from central Kyiv, where he says sirens and explosions continue to be heard after sunrise, as Ukraine’s president said a Russian air assault had started at 4 a.m. local time.

Russian paratroopers have captured an airfield outside of Kyiv. Ukrainian forces are trying to retake it. They deployed Rocket launchers “GRAD” in the residential area to fire on Russian position, believing Russian Air Forces will not hit back to avoid civilian casualties. That’s the artillery the reporter is hearing. Currently there is no action in Kyiv itself.
