Are you worried about your baby sleeping on his side and it’s effects? Watch this video for answers to ‘can babies sleep on their side’, and the effects of newborns sleeping on their side.

Some swear that a baby is supposed to lie on his back or stomach, while others claim that sleeping on the side is the best. Sleeping on the side does no good to children below the age of 12 months, and is an unsafe practice. Only after a year of development do the muscles and internal organs of the child get strong enough to lower the risk of choking, so the baby must not be allowed to lie on his tummy or side during the first year of its life. This video on baby sleeping on their side gives you all the information you need on the topic.

Forty-one years ago, I brought home a full term son (vaginal delivery) with a greenstick fracture of his clavicle during birth due to his large size -- we were advised to keep him wrapped on that side and make him sleep on his opposite side for 2 wks. As an infant, he was easy to control, but after that he was most comfortable on his belly. At that time, in 1981, how babies slept wasn't a concern! Oh, and his head was perfectly shaped! He was born in Sept. and slept how he wanted. He's now 41, healthy, successful, and the father of 3. I understand the generationally concerned changes in pediatric care norms, but, if your baby sleeps, you should be happy. Once they get active, all bets are off! There will always be incidences of SIDS.

I'm a first time mom and I shouldn't have let my baby slept on his back. but because I was going after the internet my baby got torticollis and I small flat head on his side.
All the people I know they babies all slept on there tummy's and there sides and not one problem was found with that kids no flat head or torticollis and also they didn't even need tummy time because they already slept on there tummy's. My baby is turning 4 months soon, and my personal advice is I shouldn't have let my baby slept on his back from birth because no he doesn't like to lay so much on his tummy and he has gotten also torticollis, but I fixed that myself now he doesn't have torticollis anymore and he had a small flat spot on the side because of the torticollis he had, but that flat side is gone right now. because I acted fast, by letting my child sleep on his sides, my child doesn't like to sleep on his back he moves alot when sleeping on his back an I don't like that. When I have my second baby I will let my baby sleep on his or her stomach and sides, because I have seen a lot of things happen while I aloud my baby to sleep on his back for the first 2 months.

I have observed choking even while the baby is flat on her back as recommend.. and by choking I mean coughing for over a minute and not being able to clear the air way, unless turned to the right hand side and patting. What is the recommendation on this

I left my new born (6 days old) sleep on her side because of nurse recommendation. Found out it is NOT safe. My child was breathing abnormally but I did not notice untill after 1-2 hours. I got her back on her back immidiately when I noticed.... She is still breathing however should I be worried at this point?

I am a kinship foster g pa. preemie fella with constant tummy pains. He already has strong neck and tummy muscles from going thru withdrawal. So, Bam Bam here is already rolling himself over at 6 weeks. If on his back he is in pain all day, pit on side or tummy, he can sleep for 2 hours, no cramping whatsoever. Usually after 2 hrs he rolls to half back and side then bottle time. Of course every web site says back only or else. I admit, I watch him like a hawk. He spends most of the time on back but tummy time we actually see just how strong he is getting
