i was in the hospital with my daughter . my mother noticed the newborn baby in the crib next to us . she said go see why the baby was making jerking movements. Omg the baby was throwing up and swallowing the vomit and could not breath. IF my mother did not see that the baby would have died. i rolled the baby over and the baby started breathing. I was so scared my heart was racing, i told the nurses what happened and they ignored me. i was so upset . when i went home i cryed when i came back the baby was put into a carage and parked next to the nurses. i was afraid they did not care. i told everyone i knew about that and warned them never leave a baby on their back.

My 7 weeks old choked last night for the 1st time lying on back, by the grace of God i was awake at that moment, it is so scary.. I am afraid to sleep today. I often use side lying as it is good for colic but not always, reading the comments it feels sideways is better, i will try this. Anyone who can guide me more for this

I just was looking into sleep paralysis as an adult. It's tied to lying on your back, as is walking up unable to breathe. That's harsh for adults, much less I'd imagine for a baby. You have to get up from a sound sleep while choking. Babies can't even get up on their own. I sleep on my side because of that.

Just curious, does this change as we grow into adolescent and adulthood? We've always been taught not to allow someone passed out of intoxication to sleep on their backs because they can die from choking on their own vomit. I've also heard cases of adults and teens dying from this.

After having 6 children of my own, I dissagree with this. All my babies spit up while on their backs and started to choke. I saw many babies in the baby ward on their backs with propped bottles choking. The baby would turn their heads but gag still depending upon how much they were spitting up. I always put my kids to bed on their stomachs to avoid the choking. Also, when my babies were on their backs during the daytime, they would show their startle reflex often. On their stomachs they curled up, felt safe and fell to slepp. I feel each parent knows their own baby best and should judge accordingly

I literally just read a bunch of reddits talking about how their babies choked and turned blue/had to do cpr bc of spit up on their backs. I hate when medical people say “that can’t happen” well it is so why don’t we stop acting like it’s not possible.

Baby sleep is a skill that babies can learn. This is not often taught - if you'd like to know more, put away the props and feel free to get in contact with me. We managed to teach our son to sleep right through after 11 months of waking up 3 times every night!

When all of my babies were born, back in the 1980s, I was told to rotate their sleeping positions from right side to left side, to tummy to back. They told me to never to just let them stay in their backs the whole time. After feeding, I always placed the baby in a reclining baby seat so that if baby spit up, it wouldn’t choke. This always worked. Of course this info is now considered outdated and would never be advised anymore.

My 5 day old baby was born a whole month early and will NOT swaddle and rolls on her side immediately. Desperate for advice 😩

I realized the same thing, putting a child to sleep on its back is dangerous, but one question, in what position should you put your baby to sleep, is it OK for your baby to sleep on its side let me know, because I had a bad experience the first time and I had tears in my eyes, so as a young mother I want to know, my mom is not here to help me, someone please leave comments so I can know what to do

Such lies. Only on her back did my baby choked on her vomit.
