Climate crisis: Could scientists refreeze the Arctic?

Concerns amplified in a report by some of the world's top climate experts, which has been shared with this programme.

The Climate Crisis Advisory Group, set up by Sir David King, says that the warming of the Arctic contributes to record breaking heat and rainfall we are seeing.

But could scientists manage to reverse engineer the climate crisis and refreeze the ice caps?

Meanwhile Exxon and others still lobbying for gas 🎉

Have a word with Bezos and Branson, they have the means to contribute to these efforts rather than say their futile vanity projects flying into space

"A country like Vietnam is 95% under sea water". It is shocking!

I refroze half an arctic roll one time, so it can be done. The Tories recommend not washing your dishes to save the planet and try not to worry about the activities of Shell, BP etc. Thanks Bowis.

Until we treat the earth better we deserve everything that's coming to us.

Politicians: What happens in the arctic stay in the Arctic
Scientists: No
Politicians: ...I'm not listening.

No mention of the effects that the Milankovitch cycles have on the Earth’s climate, what will happen after the interglacial warming period we are now in finishes, and what depth of ice will be cover large parts of the Northern hemisphere in a few tens of thousands of years. For a long term vision of climate change ask geologists not weathermen, journalists or university researchers who need the money to keep the story going.
Yes there is a problem and put simply there are too many people on planet Earth polluting our soils, atmosphere rivers and oceans, destroying natural habitats and exploiting the Earth’s natural resources faster than they can be replaced. The solution : just breed less for a few generations.

Melting sea ice does not contribute to rising sea levels. Melting ice on Greenland, Antarctica and glaciers do.

They need to stop messing with the weather !!!!

I just noticed something If I want to build a house Ill seriously need to consider all factors like climate change, sea water level, cyclones, and heat so my family atleast live a decent life

The Ocean has absorbed 93% of all human warming thus far. The ocean is “lost”. To say it isn’t is dumb. Look at the sharks in Florida yesterday, dying, dead, gone.

This is of real urgency - 60 degrees change in temperature certain regions. Geo engineering is necessary to buy us time. The world is not acting fast enough to reduce fossil fuel

While we are bystanders of extreme weather events, none of us have been asked to reduce the amount of petrol or gas we consume day by day. I think we have reached the point where governments across the world have to ration individuals' energy consumption. I don't think we can save the planet while we are maintaining the same life style. Mind you, the population is still growing too.

Nature is extremely delicate and complex. Trying to refreeze the artic can actually can have an even worse outcome.

So is everyone ready to start living like the Amish? ....no. Of course not. Were not going to do anything because theres nothing we can do about it.

Can we take a global vote on anything we do in future that could go horribly wrong because….. history.

How much emissions is produced when private persons fly into space regularly and what does THIS do to our climate???

If I could... I would design autonomous floating windmills powering compressors that make liquid oxygen and nitrogen which is recirculating to create sea ice... and considering if dry ice could be stored in artificial icebergs... pulling it out of the air... creating a albedo effect... these would not be long term solutions but works in process that form countermeasures off setting the current situation and environmental degradation.
For example if a test project was successful in reducing the polar bear swimming distance from over ninety miles to a series of artificial ice archipelagos and the feedback loops are diminished... it would create advantageous outcomes and buy time for other projects.
Some windmills could be anchored and others would be mobile...
The material science of a flexible tube with ice mining cables filled with recirculating liquid nitrogen cooled by recirculating liquid oxygen creating a stable ice slurry that is further cooled by mixing the thermal edge of the liquid nitrogen and oxygen into a sprayer with the sea water to form sea ice...
Then creating the artificial icebergs and filling the icebergs with dry ice blocks... using the ice mining cables to facilitate the recirculating liquid nitrogen and oxygen to maintain sidewalls... with foggy conditions developing to show the breakdown of the iceberg walls... but at least it was a cooling solid and even the fog creates cooling blanket and cooling albedo effects.
I wanted to do this with the Elon Musk challenge and started to attempt the process... as I began to work out this concept... but I am disabled and my plate is full... so if you are capable of picking up the ball and running with it... then here take this baton and run...

Refreezing Arctic Ice. Using sectional floatation, a 20' diameter pipes would hang vertically from the ocean surface to 20' from the ocean floor, being close to the ice pack. A water pump at the top would need to just pump out the top 4' feet of water before the capillary effect would begin bringing up the colder water from the bottom. This colder water hitting the ice would reduce the amount of melt throughout the summer and allow the winter to build up a greater amount of ice every winter. One pipe would do nothing, 10, 000 would have the desired effect of building up the ice and cooling the entire region, possibly helping to reduce the melting of the Greenland ice pack.
