As we age, the risk of fractures can increase, which can be due to osteoporosis or several other factors. One of the most common fractures is what is known as vertebral compression fracture, which is a fracture within the spinal vertebrae. These fractures can cause pain, loss of height or change in posture.

In this live virtual seminar, Dr. Ali Araghi will discuss the most common causes of these fractures, tips to help prevent these fractures, and the latest advancements in treatment options.

Dr. Araghi is Board Certified and Fellowship Trained Orthopedic Spine Surgeon specializing in both non-surgical and surgical treatments for spinal conditions.

Thank you so much!! Was recently diagnosed with 2 fractures on T12 and L1...cement was mentioned. Pain mgt. doc and I decided to wait and see before any injection. I did PT and was doing well....slowly, but recently seemed to go backwards somewhat and am anxiously waiting to see the rheumatologist I have an appt. with. Just takes so long to get in to see new Dr.s I would like to ride out the pain. Its been 3 mo., though, and am growing impatient. Oh, I am 77 yrs. old.

Oh my gosh, this video was so helpful. Thank you! I developed a compression fracture in my T9 about a month ago and just found out I have osteoporosis. The bone density scan from 10 years ago came out really good, but the one just a few days ago shows a 22% decrease in bone density. I have asked my primary care physician for a recommendation on a rheumatologist or an endocrinologist. I’m hoping one of those doctors can help ease this pain. Thanks again for the video.

Amazing, thank you for this! Before my accident a year ago- I was very active, strong, could lift/carry 50lbs easy. After my accident, my T-11 split like a cookie, refused to heal- now I face kyphoplasty. I am a little hesitant. At 60, I have no health issues, no daily meds other than pain meds and bone vitamins. My gut health is great, blood pressure a little high, as active as I can be! I live with daily pain, I pray this is the answer...

I have a T12 wedge fracture, pain to the side of there, muscular feel. I suspect lateral nerve pinch? Had big fall 50+ years ago, but never knew it was damaged, until MRI in 2016. Pain has been getting worse over recent 15 years. Meds have no affect on pain. Trying exercise.
Bone density is just pre Osteo. I’m in Western Australia. Medicos seem uninterested. Any advice to give?? Cheers. Very informative.

Very helpful. Almost 7 years ago at 25 y.o. I had a severe road accident and my T6-T7 were fractured and loss of height of 70% and 40%. I wore a back brace during 3 months. Since then I have lots of upper back, shoulder and neck pain.
The insurance told me recently that they don't understand why I have pain...

Man. I'm 62, diagnosed with very severe osteoporosis 10 months ago, after my husband decided my repeated injuries to my back had to be related to bone density. I tried to find out what was happening, told my doctor, but evidently osteoporosis is not on the radar before age 65. Now I have at least three confirmed fractures, two in my upper back, one just below the waist. I'm pretty sure I got another one this summer, got an x-ray right away, but they could see nothing, and the pain was internal; I can still feel it (10 weeks later) but not when someone presses on my spine. Still, I know what they feel like now, but oh well, apparently the idea around here is to ignore them and hope I don't complain too much. I've lost three inches in height, my rib cage is impacted somehow now, and it's definitely impacting my ability to work (I'm a hairdresser--I have a suspicion the work caused the fractures at T 6 and 7, but no one will affirm this, ) because holding my arms in front of me for more than 5 minutes results in pain that goes from achy to screaming muscles and nerves by the end of a 4 hour shift. And, people say my problem is my back muscles are weak--which they surely are, in some ways--but in other ways, I know my muscles are working like crazy.

I don't know what's going to happen to me but my sense is it's going to take not being able to walk before our medical system will offer more than physical therapy.

Thank you i found out today i have a compression fracture 63 years old female. I had to shovel out after a horrible snow storm my car. Worst heavy snow ever. I went slow. Not moving much but it did not matter. My som 44 would not help. I am moving away asap. Why. Everyone else cars got moved. I asked he said no you don't have to move it and side plowed about 25 inches of snow behind my bumper. His girlfriend wants me out. I have been a team player . She is insecure. So so sad. I will always love my son dearly forever. But i am disabled for life and can die at anytime. To bad he has allowed this to evolve. As she says drop the mike when we ( my son and I talk about anything of substance) and he shuts up. His house. My heart is crushed. God bless all who have this same issue. They ignored my hurt back. Katma .. .

One of the best videos I watched regarding compression fractures. Some say that you may not feel pain with a compression fraction. What would you recommend as far as checking to see if I have any compression fractures. My Dexa scan has been the same for the last 3 years, however the numbers are bad. -3.9. My OBGYN said I’m a day away from a fracture. The endocrinologists in Naples, Fl are not well versed in osteoporosis but they focus more on diabetes. Any suggestions or tests?

Where are you located? My wife had this procedure and is in much more pain now, she spends every day lying down, with about 15 minutes in her walker, it’s been a month and a half sine she had the cement

Im 67 and fell on my butt hard and im scared too death, i had to crawl on my hands and knees to get to my bedroom about 80 ft. And called the Ambulance and they were so rough with me. Wanted me to stand and my legs were numb so i grabbed them, i was in sp much pain. And they treated me like i wasn't hurt. I look young for my age so they treated me like a child . Didnt even put neck brace on me.
Then at the ER i was in so much pain, and all the nurse did is put blood pressure cuff on me and just left the room. And some person came in and ask my personal things and left. I was screaming in pain. Nothing. So the Xray tech came in and wheeled me in to xray room and expected me to get up and lay on the table, so as i did that i hurt so bad, i was going to throw up.
Well found out i had a broken back.
L 1 Lumbar break compression.
The nurse finally gave me medicine a shot for the pain. But all it did was make me loopy and didn't stop the pain. So i had to go to the bathroom and i was treated like I didnt have a problem, expected me to walk to the bathroom. Im so devastated how i was treated, i just wanted to go home and die. It's been 3 weeks and my back aches so bad, i only take ibuprofen, im so scared, im by myself, but my daughter comes to help after work, makes sure i have things in arms length. 😢
