Mario Party may seem like this little party game without any serious thought put into its lore, but that is far from the truth. Not only have these games introduced many new characters and worlds, they also have provided us with a unique insight into character relationships, courtesy of the obscure team names that were a thing in Mario Party 5, 6, 8 and the version on DS. The fact that Wario & Toadette are called "secret friends" makes the plot of Treasure Tracker really funny. See, the reason Toadette needs to be rescued is because things went wrong in her pursuit of a massive gemstone. Wario would be proud.

The fact that, outside of Waluigi, the only people that get along with Wario are two girls that together are "shopping pals" is kinda cute and funny

Daisy & Dry Bones makes the most clever name in the whole series of "Daisy Pushers" a nod to pushing up daisies, or death.

I like to think the secret friendship Wario names are less clandestine relationship, and more no one wants to admit they like to hang out with Wario. He is not good for the public image.

I always found Daisy & Waluigi's team name being *"Awkward Date"* really funny since it's referencing how Waluigi has a one-sided crush on Daisy 💀

My theory about Toadette's and Wario's relationship is that they are both capitalistic brutes. For Wario, it's obvious, but it's shown for Toadette in Mario Maker 2 where she's very brutal with builder Toads

Wario and Yoshi being pals isn't so unlikely when you consider that they're both playable characters in Super Mario 64 DS.

2:24 I love how this name implies Luigi is the escort.
Only a princess like Peach could afford Luigi’s ✨services✨

In fairness to Daisy, Warioland is supposedly located nearby Sarasaland, so being secret allies could just mean diplomatically, as it’s smart for Daisy to not have bad relations with her neighbors and vice versa. Aside from that, I could imagine both being horrible pranksters.

Maybe the Mario/Dry Bones team name references that Mario is often associated with fire, even without the fire Flower?

I feel like "Double Agents" might just mean that neither Toadette nor Wario actually want to be on the other's team? Like maybe they both are just teaming up to try and spy on or mess with the other. The rest of Toadette's team names are plenty sus though

3:01 Daisy wasn't developed as a character yet back when Mario Party 5 released. Her voice lines in this game made her seem shy and quiet, hence her team name with boo.

The boo and Mario being "Old Acquaintances" is a Luigi's Mansion reference, poking fun of how a bunch of Boos kidnapped Mario in that game.

I think Toadette's relationships might be because of her inviting nature. She seems like the kind of person who would get along with anyone (or mostly anyone)

I’m surprised you didn’t mention Daisy and Waluigi, wasn’t there a team name where they had awkward couple or something like that? It sort f ties into the lore of Luigi and Waluigi’s rivalry and Daisy’s past

I'm surprised you didn't mention how Waluigi and Mario make "Pseudo Bros" in some games. Like, it could just be a reference to how their brothers (or whatever Wario and Waluigi's relationship is) are dopplegangers of each other, but what first came to my mind when I read that was that Mario and Waluigi actually get along and have a brotherly relationship. The development team probably meant it in the former sense (then again they also said Wario is friends with Toadette, Daisy, and Yoshi so honestly who knows) (by the way, in German Daisy and Wario's team name is Secret Lovers), but I now like to think that they do get along because Waluigi only hates Luigi but has nothing against Mario and this brotherly bond is the reason Waluigi keeps getting invited to parties and stuff.

Also, shoutout to Wario and Waluigi's team name in DS: "Bad Boys". That's so funny to me, I mean this term is mostly used to describe aloof and tempting male leads in romance flicks but it's being applies to these two Looney-Tunes looking doofuses.

A while ago, Matpat did a video on Peachette and her significance, and alluded to the fact that Toadette might be plotting to overthrow Peach and become the next ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom.

If she's secretly friends with Wario and Bowser Jr., her team names with them support that theory.

Because, in order to do so, she would have to deal with Mario, and forming an alliance with Bowser (who has wanted to rule Mushroom Kingdom) and Wario (who is Mario's rival) leads to them being her natural allies.

6:40 I loved that one as a kid, I think it’s about Mario using the fire flower and dry bones being his boney self

Green Escort is likely meant to mean the other definition of an Escort. That is... someone who escorts another person to a destination. Luigi being a gentleman would definitely kindly usher Princess Peach to a place she wants to go.
Only girls can be tomboys, but I guess Yoshi and Daisy get into mischief together. Which is the trouble.
Egg Explosion probably just refers to the fact that they both launch eggs, and the explosion part just means that there's more eggs now that there's 2 launchers of them.
Creature Feature probably also refers to the fact that Boo and Blooper are the only characters who float. They're also all white.
Fungus Friends isn't really calling Mario a fungus, just that appreciation for fungi are something that he and Toad both have in common.
Fan Favorites probably also refers to the MarioxPeach ship, which is a fan favorite.
