There is a very similar game played in various parts of India and is called by different names with slight variations. Its called 'Pallankuzhi( pronounced as puhl-uhn-koo-yi) in the tamil language, which loosely translates to 'Pits and holes' describing the board. Very interesting to see similar games played across different cultures !

I've always wondered about this game. Seemed easy to learn and your instructions are wonderful. Thank you.

Thank you so much for this explanation. I used to play Mancala with my students. I'm about to start playing it with my granddaughter, and I'd forgotten the rules.

Thanks! Your video was more helpful than the several I saw before yours. They had moved too quickly and their multi-colored stones made it more difficult to track but yours was more clear and easy to follow. The only complaint/suggestion I have is to change the sound effect for transitions (e.g., Taking A Turn, Walk Through A Round, etc).. your current one is really grating.

nicely explanation of some of the subtleties that were hard to grasp when watching 2 people play.

in the olden days they used rabbit droppings as stones
i tend to keep the tradition alive and poo in my Mancala from time to time

When one side clears towards the end, does the side that still has beads collect them and put them in their mancala?

Question.. Do the moves have to be contiguos or can you hop to any other gaps (mini mancalas)?
