I found this very helpful. I take care of my parents both 90, and they need new phones, and this might be one of them.

Friends find it hard to believe that I want a phone that just makes calls. Ninty nine percent of the time I need to know the time or call someone. One percent of the time, when I need the internet, I'm at home and use my laptop. CVS has these on sale, until Father's Day for $49.99, unlimited text and talk for an additional $20.00 a month. Hell of a deal. Comes in black, red or graphite. I love mine.

I'm getting this phone because I don't like the distraction of a smartphone and just want a basic phone

You did awesome job on this review… very helpful. Thank you. Will be definitely getting this for my 88 yr old Mom!

Good video but a section on the very basic steps to do simple things such as answering a call would be helpful. My Dad, who has just turned 88 and is technology-challenged would appreciate it. I know that info is in the manual but a video would be great too.

What if you don't want Alexa??? Sounded good until you mentioned Alexa, it records everuthing you say. Big violation of privacy. Is there a Jitterbug that DOESN'T have Alexa??

Late seeing this post. Thanks for sharing this vital information. I have an IPhone, laptop and a tablet, so, I may add this one in thefuture. It would be a nice backup for me.

Just got one of these because Lively's network changes on January 2 apparently killed Jitterbug 1 Flip phones. They did replace the phone for free (yea!), but it took them nearly three weeks (boo!) They did offer a workaround for emergencies though ... dial 911 from another phone (sigh). Some of the new bells and whistles of this phone, particularly Alexa, appeal to me, but will be useless to my dad, and the overall decline in the user interface makes it very hard for him to do basic things.

Specifically, making a call for him used to be: 1.) Open phone, 2) Press YES button for the default Phone Call option, 3) Scroll through the list of speed dials of the five people that realistically are the only people he'll ever call, and 4) Press YES again when highlighting the name he wants. With the new phone, it''s 1) Open phone, 2) Press Ok [sic] button to go to phone, 3) Scroll through menu options to find Contacts, 4) Press Ok again, 5) Scroll through list of contacts, 6) Press Ok again to choose a contact and display the number, 7) Press Ok again to go dial screen, 8) Press Ok again to actually dial (smh).

I hope he'll get it, but I'm not really optimistic. There's a Speed Dial option, but apparently it just assigns a number to a particular contact. He could then dial that contact by pressing and holding that single number, but that assumes he remembers which number is for which person. (He won't.) I may need to make a crib sheet and glue it to the phone somehow. I could also set up Alexa for him, and then he'd just have to go into Ask Alexa, instead of Phone, and say "Alexa, ask Lively to call Greg". Yeah, shaking my head again.

TO minimize bias in the review, i would like to see a bit more minimal (non to low smart) phone and plan comparison for various senior comfort levels like Tello and Mint plans and CAT S22 etc.

Saddly, to improve the phone reception signal, one musrt connect to a WiFi system. However, although the Lively Flip does have a Blutooth connection option, it does not allow you to use captial Upper case letters in the password setting, beyond the very first Letter. I have tried to change the keeboard selection on several occassions and no matter what I select, you can not overcome this peculiarirty of not allowing Upper Case letter inpuit. So, it defeats the purpose of having a Bluetooth option. Mostg passwods have atleast 1 or 2 uppercase letters that render the phone useless.

How do you text on the Jitterbug Flip 2 phone? Any chance a full keyboard appears on the screen instead of the phone pad that takes extra work? My Mom is 98 and computer savvy but texting on her current phone is next to impossible and wanted something that is more user friendly. I have had her use my iphone but that is not up her alley either. Thanks for any direction.

Is the Flip2 able to receive and read texts in other languages with Unicode characters, e.g. Chinese? (I realize it cannot send messages in other languages but was hoping it could at least a receive them)

Do they add another $30 of taxes and various fees to your bill every month like other companies do?

I wanted to know how to delete the call history number that is displayed on a friend's phone. She has 16 missed calls.
