I was confused that Mulan and Shang didn’t get married or even kiss at the end when I was little. He was obviously meant to be her “Prince” character. Maybe it was meant for a sequel. A lot of people hate the sequel but I think it’s great other than how they turned Mushu into the villain for most of the movie.

Another fun fact is when Mulan goes face to face with Shan Yu, revealing herself as “the soldier from the mountains” that’s exactly what Shan Yu says. He doesn’t say anything to discriminate against her gender, this is because in this time period women of the Huns had more equal rights and were allowed to fight in war

The truth is that the chess game in Mulan was an error in the making of the film. The "general" in Chinese chess (equivalent to the King) cannot move diagonally like in that video, and the piece Mulan used is not a "Cannon" piece because it needs any other piece in front of it to be as a launching pad, so I think the piece she used was the "Rook" piece (equivalent to Rock).

Fun fact: the "chess" piece that Mulan moves couldn't have been the cannon, because 1. the writing on top of the pieces are all gibberish, the piece she moved looks nothing like the word for cannon 炮. If anything it looks more like chariot 車, and I'm being really generous here for it not being just gibberish. and 2. If the piece was cannon, making that move literally is inconsequential as it threatens no new enemy pieces due to rules for how canons capture. However if it was chariot, I can see how it could be a checkmate depending on what the other red piece was in the vicinity.
