Can I just say: you have a very soothing voice. I was supposed to save this video so I can watch it later, but hearing the video made me tune in. Thanks for making this video! This just makes me anticipate the Mulan movie even more.

Ballad of Mulan actually start when Mullan weaving the fabric, but because she mourns the call to war, there "no sound of the loom and shuttle, only that of the girl lamenting." Mulan then tells her parents that, "I'm willing to buy a horse and saddle,
To go to battle in my father's place", and "ten thousand miles she rode in war, crossing passes and mountains as if on a wing." When she returns home, Mulan surprises her old comrades with make-up and puts on her old clothes, making the comrades surprise and they say, "We travelled twelve years together, yet didn't realise Mulan was a lady!" The ballad of Mulan ends when Mulan says to his old war comrades, “The he-hare bounds here and there, whilst the she-hare has narrow eyes. But when the two rabbits run side by side, how can you tell the female from the male?" So there no suicide or forced marriage. Mulann's parents come to meet his daughter at the city gate, Mulann's sister comes to the door of the house, and Mulann's brother sharpens his knife for the pigs and the lamb.

Edit: I downvoted because this channel didn't do closer background research on Mulan. And while the version told in the video is the most tragic one, it’s not the original Ballad of Mulan.

The main written source of Mulan dates back to the "first transcribed by the monk Zhiajiang in the Southern Chen dynasty in the 6th century. Whilst different versions of the story give her different family names, there is no record of Mulan committing suicide. Instead she is welcomed home by her family - her parents, older sister, and younger brother. The idea of her committing suicide sounds like historical renderings by male historians of other warrior women, perhaps to indicate that women who chose to take up arms were going so much against their nature as women that they became unhappy to the point of suicide. We find these portrayals when the ending of a warrior women is not known, such as in the case of the 5th century B.C.E. Queen of Helicarnassus (in modern-day Turkey) Artemisia I of Caria and in the case of Britain's Iceni Queen Boudicca.

THE FULL NAME OF MULAN IS 花木蘭

花=FA(SURNAME)
木蘭=MULAN(GIVEN NAME)

CHINESE NAME=SURNAME + GIVEN NAME

花 MEANS FLOWER, SO WE CAN CALL MULAN IS MISS FLOWER. SHE WAS BORN IN A SOLDIER'S FAMILY IN NORTH 魏, 5 CENTURY. DURING THIS AGE, CHINA WAS DIVIDED INTO TWO PARTS, NORTH 魏 AND SOUTH 朝. THE ENEMY OF NORTH 魏 AT THE NORTHERN BORDER IS 柔然

柔然 WAS A NOMADIC EMPIRE AND ITS ARMY WAS MAINLY THE CAVALRY, JUST LIKE THE MONGOLIAN ARMY

"Did any of these facts surprise you?" . . . it's a Chinese story and the hero dies in the end. Nope. That didn't surprise me at all. Someone really needs to go to China and explain the concept of "Happy Ending" to filmmakers. (I did just watch the 2020 live-action movie. Thought it was wonderful. Even to a grey-haired old man.)

It's funny how you mix in many Manchurian Ching pictures. It's akin to telling ancient story of Rome with pictures of the Nazi.

the image at 1:30 portrays a girl in Qing dynasty cloth, which is about one thousand years after Mulan's time, it has nothing to do with Mulan. don't waste your time here, the video maker knows nothing about Chinese culture.
