Mid90s Movie Review - Collider @ TIFF 2018

Perri Nemiroff reviews mid90s at TIFF 2018. Written and directed by Jonah Hill, the film follows a young teenager in mid-90s Los Angeles, played by Sunny Suljic (Killing of a Sacred Deer), as he spends his summer with new skater friends while avoiding with his abusive older brother.

The film features an original score from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross and co-stars Lucas Hedges, Katherine Waterston, Na-kel Smith, Olan Prenatt, Ryder McLaughlin, and Gio Galicia. It opens in theaters on October 19th.

I remember when I first got into skating and also Tyler the Creator and Earl sweatshirt and the rest of Odd Future. I just saw this movie tonight and honestly it blew me away it was incredibly relatable and kind of put me back into my days as a middle schooler moving on up in the highschool arena lol. I'm only 19 now, but honestly the language they use crude or not was honestly how most of us spoke in middle school and high school. It was so dope seeing how true to the culture Jonah Hill was able to translate it on screen. TBH it's also crazy seeing Na-kel on screen and acting on this level, I remember being introduced to him through Earl sweatshirt and Odd Future it's just crazy like he was hella good in this movie they all were. I really enjoyed this movie.

I cant wait to see the movie when i saw bits and pieces of mid 90s it made me cry because the man in the movie was abuseive and he hurt the kid and that made me cry
