Mid 90’s
intro
In Today’s review we are being transported back 20 years. Today we are looking at the new coming of age drama/comedy Mid 90’s.

The movie is written and directed by Jonah Hill and stars sunny sulujic as Stevie.
Lucas Hedges as Ian,
Na-kel Smith as Ray
Olan Prenatt as FS
Gio Galicia as Ruben
Ryder McLaughlin as Fourth Grade

The premise ...
Taking place in Los Angeles the story is focused on 13 year old Stevie aka Sunburn and his 4 friends. each with there own unique backstories searching to belong.

Super Nintendo...Sega Genesis
Right off the bat I felt like I was warped right back to the 90’s. The cd collections. The street fighter 2 T-shirt. The kids loitering outside of the beeper store. The movie does a great job of transporting you right back to the Mid 90’s.

Looking to belong
Much like growing up a lot of kids are just looking to belong and that’s where the story focuses on. following Stevie and 4 new skateboarder friends. But as with adolescences theres lots of peer pressure from either trying to have nice things to meeting girls to drinking and smoking. The pressures that kids will face in the hopes to fit in with a crowd.

A great balance
The movie does a great job balancing out the drama and comedy in this movie. There’s some very tense moments during certain scenes and quite a few laugh out loud moment when the boys are all being themselves. All of it feels like it all just naturally flows together.

More 90’s
While I really did enjoy this movie I almost would have wanted more. I really loved the characters and world that Jonah hill created here. And to be honest I think he really created an interesting world with dynamic characters that I would have like to see maybe in a miniseries.

The verdict
I think this movie was fantastic. It’s in my contenders for my favorite movie of the year right now. The 90’s theme had me engulfed. The characters were dinamic. And the plot had me engaged. I also think there can be some life lessons learned in this film. My verdict is definitely check out Mid 90’s. In a world where we are bombarded with super hero movies it’s nice to go back to not only watch a movie about the 90’s but see on that could have been made then as well. I’d like to see more of these types of movies made. As of right now it seems to be in limited showings so if you do miss it out at the theater definitely catch it when it’s released for streaming.
