Having mixed friends is still cool in california. I have friends who are Filipino, lightskin, black, mexican, puerto rican, white, Italian, chinese, japanese, hawaiian, etc. Everyone has a bit of everything here.

Having mixed friends was the thing to do? Race has nothing to do with who you choose to skate with and it didnt in the 90's. Skateboarding was considered "whiteboy" shit. So, if you were a black or hispanic skater in the 90's, not only would you get hated on by damn near everybody regardless of your race, you would get hated on by your OWN race the most. On top of that, it was very cliqueish so skaters would hate on skaters a ton also. Then, the people you grew up skating with would stop skating cause it became too hard for them. So you skated alone until you meet some other dudes on your level or get accepted by older dudes somehow. You had to skate because you absolutely loved it and refused to let anyone take it away from you.
