King Arthur — How Moments Can Ruin A Movie | Anatomy Of A Failure

In today's Anatomy of a Failure, we'll be taking a look at King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. Despite Sherlock Holmes director Guy Ritchie's visual filmmaking talent, the movie flopped hard at the box office. And it might be due to its heavy reliance on visual moments. Why did King Arthur flop and become a failure? Maybe we'll know after this video.

And hopefully, Ritchie's visual style will return to the screen soon with Sherlock Holmes 3, with Dumbledore Jude Law and Iron Man Robert Downey Jr. When is Sherlock Holmes 3 coming out? What is the Sherlock Holmes 3 release date? When will we get a Sherlock Holmes 3 trailer? I don't know. But maybe this video essay will suffice in the meantime.

Robbed of his royal lineage as a child when his uncle usurped the throne, Arthur (Charlie Hunnam) returns to the kingdom once ruled by his father and draws the legendary sword Excalibur from the stone. He must then learn to harness the sword's power in order to lead a rebellion against the tyrannical Vortigern (Jude Law) and reclaim his birthright. Guy Ritchie directed this stylized retelling of the story of King Arthur, which co-stars Eric Bana, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Djimon Hounsou, and Aidan Gillen.

the scene where they jumped off the cliff and the soldier pushed is friend is deceptively amazing, it humanizes the "bad guys" and actually shows that they are friends and actually have personality, compared to the "Storm trooper" feeling we get from nearly all of the bad guy minor henchmen in action movies.

This should be required viewing for any aspiring film makers. Many people on YT just bitch about films, others make jokes, but this guy actually teaches and entertains.

This movie's visuals make it come across more anime than actual live-action anime adaptations. Which I thought was impossible.

Honestly, I never understood why people didn't like the film in my humble opinion I think it is great.

"one big montage" describes this film pretty well

If they spent time with the villain's daughter, we'd care about her when he sacrifices her. That's pretty much why that scene in Infinity War worked so well.

This movie was entertaining and boring at the same time. Now I know why.

While it flopped at the box office, the movie itself was good. The effects were unique and the actors did good. On top of that the dialog between the characters during the film was amusing as well original. The director tried to put his spin on a legendary tale and I will always say that he did a great job.

I honestly wanted a sequel to this, despite leaving me with a weird feeling I still wanted to see more, and I'm sad we'll never see how it could have developed

That Sicario edit was outstanding and totally bang on as an example.

So this movie was, in essence, playing an Assassin's Creed game but skipping all the gameplay to get to the assassination cutscenes.

The boss fight was epic as heck! Handsdown the best fight I've ever seen.

I remember watching this film and the first time they did the cutting back and forth from scene to scene I thought:
"Oh wow, that actually was a pretty neat way of telling us what happened."
Then they did it again, and by the third time I realized that this was going to be the whole film. It was a cool feature, but it was overused. Its like if in half life 2 they forced you to use the super gravity gun the whole time instead of just the ending.

Guy Ritchie: Hey everyone I used every trick in my film making book to turn this 3 hour script into a 2 hour film!
Everyone: Why not just have a 2 hour story and film it normally?

I love how he cut one of the most brilliant tension filled scenes in cinematic history into a montage. Editing really is everything.
