This Carne Guisada is so tender and flavorful! Diced beef chuck roast in gravy comes together to make a delicious guisada. This works great in tortillas served as tacos or paired with rice and beans for a complete dinner. YUM!!!!!

Author: Yesenia Montoya

Ingredients:
2 1/2 - 3 lbs of beef chuck roast diced into 1-inch pieces
1/2 tsp pink Himalayan salt ( use less if you are using fine salt)
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 tbsp olive oil
1/2 cup diced onion
1/4 cup of bell pepper
2 cloves of minced garlic
4 tbsp of flour
3 tbsp tomato sauce
3 cups hot water
2 tsp beef bouillon powder or 2 tsp better than bouillon beef base
1 tsp ground cumin

1. In a hot skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil. Next, add the diced beef. The beef will start to produce liquid. Simmer on medium heat and occasionally stir for 15 minutes or until most of the juice has evaporated.
2. Add the onion, bell pepper, and garlic and saute for 5 minutes or until the veggies have softened.
3. Sprinkle the flour over the beef and saute for another 2 minutes.
4. Add the tomato sauce and stir to combine. The sauce should start to brown. Add 3 cups of water. It will sizzle! Next, add the beef bouillon and cumin. Stir everything around making sure to scrape the bottom of the pan. Bring to a boil. Once the guisada starts to boil, set heat to low and reduce to a gentle simmer. The gravy will thicken as it cooks. Simmer for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Add 1 tbsp or 2 of water if the sauce thickens too much while simmering.
5. That's It!! Enjoy with your favorite tortillas and serve with some rice and beans!!

I’m a native San Antonian and I’ve been making carne guisada for years, but your recipe is the best I’ve ever made! Eating it tomorrow after I make my rice and homemade tortillas to go with it! Thanks for the recipe!

I bet your kitchen smells heavenly!
As a native Texan now living in Germany, "Tex-Mex" food is on my list of things that are dearly missed!
I will be making this for my family get together on Christmas and am certain they will love it!

Just finished making it according to your recipe and directions. It’s fire 🔥 10/10 would recommend. I’ve tried making it before with an instant pot recipe. It didn’t turn out how I wanted it to. I followed your instructions and did it on the stove and it’s so good restaurant quality. Thank you! It’s exactly what we need for this fall weather. 💙

I never comment on anything but this recipe is so worth it! Im married to a middle easter man that is not a huge fan of mexican food. Hes super picky. And not to mention im not that good at cooking. I made this recipe for him a couple of weeks ago and he said he really liked it (i didnt believe him) but today he requested it again! So okok i believe him now lol. Im glad i finally found a mexican dish that he really enjoys! As far as my personal opinion, I love the flavor and how tender it comes out. Thank you so much for sharing!

I live in north Louisiana and there is a Mexican restaurant on almost every corner which I am so thankful for! But, only one that I know of so far that has carne guisada on the menu. I found it kinda by mistake. I had no idea what I was ordering but wanted something different from anything else I had ever ordered before. The waitress recommended it and I haven’t ordered anything else since. The cook puts a green sauce which I think is salsa verde on his carne guisada. It’s very delicious! I would like to make my own just to see what it taste like. This recipe looks easy to me. I have been cooking since I was 13 and I’m 61 now! So I do have experience. Just not with Mexican food. I don’t have an ounce of Mexican in me but I crave the food all the time! My husband swears I’m Mexican bc if my craving for the food. Thank you so much for this recipe! I’ve been wondering how to make it! Yay now I know

I spent part of my childhood in San Antonio, this stuff is great...but hard to find outside of that area. Mrs. Yesenia makes this look so easy to make...I am going to try this tonight. I really like her laid back personality and delivery....glad I ran into this channel :o)

Before your video I wondered why my guisado was alway watery and not like I would taste it at restaurants but NOW you’ve taught me how to accomplish this delicious authentic, guisado that by adding the bell peppers, flour and those 3 hours of cooking it is so gooood!! A million thanks and God bless you! ❤️

I moved from the Rio Grande Valley to Georgia and I've been missing carne guisada so much. Time to make a little trip to the grocery store and make this.

Thanks for posting this! Always loved eating it, now let's try cooking it.

After watching this and a couple other carne guisada recipe videos, I guess I'm kind of surprised at how many commenters are just discovering this dish. I've lived my whole life in central and south Texas, and I guess I've always taken it for granted!

I'm from San Antonio too!!! And I have yet to taste Carne Guisada from another city that tastes similar, or better than San Antonio's Carne Guisada. We arguably have the BEST Mexican food in the USA!!!

I've lived in Central Texas my whole life, and have always loved carne guisada. It's my go to meal when going out with family, I've moved to the Dallas area recently and have felt homesick trying to find carne guisada. I decided to make it myself since I couldn't find any, and it tastes like home. Thank you for sharing your recipe ❤️❤️❤️.
