You can live here and still constantly find amazing spots. I moved here from Wisconsin in 2010 and it's absolutely a food capital of the world

You should've tried the Shipley's glazed donuts. They are served fresh and warm, and melt in your mouth.

Next time you need to try Crawfish and Noodles and have Viet-Cajun Crawfish. Houston fusion food. They will change your world. (make sure it's during prime crawfish season March & April; earlier than that they may be small, later than that they're big, but their shells get hard, making them harder to peel)

Solid list! Love truth so much. I’m happy to see soy Pinoy on there. Tiny champions, Nancy’s hustle, Mai’s, bludorn, Lucille’s, Crumbville, rado market for oxtail burger, tony thai for family style thai, Hugo’s, Phoenicia!!

Native Houstonian, here. My recommendations would have been “Mala Sichuan Bistro” for Chinese Szechuan, “Cafe Abuja” for Nigerian, “Taqueria Del Sol” for their gorditas and burritos. I’ve never been impressed with El Tiempo, or Ninfa’s, personally. Uchi is nice for a romantic dinner or a double date. Used to love “Kanomwan Kitchen” for their “no-frills” Thai cuisine (sadly gone, during the Pandemic) but “Nidda Thai” is a close second. And, Rudy Lechner’s for German Cuisine. There’s a superabundance of Tex-Mex and BBQ places, but there is much more that Houston offers, if you know where to look. 😊

Please, please try a locally-owned, Houston bbq chain, Goode Company. Start at the original location on Kirby Drive, south of Hwy 59.

Solid list, Lots of great food at the POST. You've only scratched the surface, you probably touched about 1/12 of what we have. Come back for more, the Southern Hospitality is REAL and so is the food.

Villa Arcos for breakfast tacos. Just down the street from the Original Ninfa’s.

lol glad you had a great first visit here. We have some of the best restaurants of literally every cuisine imaginable here. It’s honestly crazy how spoiled we are. If you ever comeback and have a few people with you to eat family style, Hai Cang seafood harbor or Confucius seafood restaurant located in Bellaire are some of the best Chinese food restaurants to eat with family or a group of friends. Very communal sharing experience with bomb flavors. We enjoy going there for special occasions

We live around the corner from Pit Room and didn’t even know they have breakfast tacos until you posted on TikTok about it. Now we can’t get enough! Houston might not be a walkable city, but Montrose and its great museums, parks, and food options are pretty damn close to the best walkable neighborhood down here.

Shipley’s has the hot glazed. It’s really good. The rest of the donuts are mid in my opinion. I would recommend Lupe Tortilla next time you come through. Best beef fajitas in town.

Places you missed as a Houstonian pretty much my whole life…

1) Skip all the other Tex-Mex and go to Irma’s by the ballpark. They will make you anything you want (even if off the menu)
2) For breakfast, go to Kingwood, TX and get Kingwood Bagel (unless you are wanting tacos and therefore go to any mom and pop place)
3) Pizza- go to STAR pizza
4) North Italia- a couple locations for pasta bolognese
5) Greek- NikoNikos
6) Burgers (so arguable) - Trill Burgers (a rapper’s restaurant) I waited outside to get in, but it was SO good.
7) Hibachi/Sushi- Umiya (Humble)
8) BBQ- if on the North side, Tin Roof in Humble or Corkscrew in Spring
9) Italian overall with multiple
Locations- Italiano’s

Next time you have to try Candente off Richmond in the Montrose neighborhood! It’s my absolute favorite texmex place and I’ve had El tiempo, Lupes, Ninfa’s, Pappasitos etc etc, Candente beats them all!

Shipley’s has iced coffee at some locations. The one by house does for sure, maybe some of the older ones don’t.
