As a gun owner it is solely your responsibility to keep your weapons secure and inaccessible to anyone else especially children, period.

Edit: I would just like to add, I am a gun owner and NRA member who is 100% for sensible legislation regarding firearm ownership, safety and storage requirements that could prevent tragedies such as this one; without restricting law abiding citizens right to keep and bear arms.

If parents were held accountable for their minor children a lot more, I believe we would see better behaved children. That helps society all around.

Some people shouldn’t have kids or guns. Both are a huge responsibility!

For her to laugh and tell her son she wasn't mad, he just needs to learn how not to get caught. She is a sad example of what a mother should be.

Rest in peace to the four students who died in a terrifying end.

The saddest part of this is your child's Christmas gift ruined the lives and Christmas of so many. My heart and prayers are with all effected by this.

How did these parents think they’re doing right by their own child? When presented with his disturbing behaviour they should have informed the school of his gun, they should have taken him home, removed access to his gun and gotten him the help he needed to deal with his mental health issues. These parents were negligent in the care of their own child, and that cost them his life and the life of 4 innocent children. They could have stopped all this. The school teachers were on the ball at flagging him up as a concern, this was almost handled correctly, but the school failed by letting him back in class and without searching him first.

“These parents are not a flight risk.” They were caught hiding in the basement of a warehouse, after fleeing. Where does her logic come from?

Brian laundry’s parents just took a deep breath, likely thinking they’re not the most hated parents in America. Close second today

This is why (with all the respect in the world 🌎 to everyone), certain people should just NOT have children!

I sell alcohol on a daily basis. Do you know why I check Id's and refuse to sell alcohol to people who appear to be intoxicated? Because I can be held criminally responsible if that person injures someone. Why anyone thinks that giving a gun to someone who isn't old enough, or not stable, is alright confuses me. Those who say the parents shouldn't be held liable should also agree that I shouldn't be responsible for selling alcohol to someone who is intoxicated and runs their vehicle into a bus full of kids that results in death.

The son killed 4 kids, and the parents gave him the weapon and let him do whatever he wanted. It’s not a hard case. Lock those low lives away plz

You don't turn off your phones, pull out gobs of cash, and hide in an abandoned basement in another town when you are cooperating with law enforcement. Maybe one of those things for a few hours in panic, but not all of it for that long. Spending time alone in jail just might erase a few years of entitlement from this pair.

I watched those parents during their son's arraignment and they really didn't seem all that torn up by it, not at all. But at their own arraignment, my goodness what a show. The father was even acting outraged that he was being held accountable. The mom was in full waterworks mode over herself being in jail. I did not hear any explanation for them hiding in a vacant building in downtown Detroit with $4000 in cash other than "logistics". I do think they were getting ready to flee.

Parents are in shock due to years of entitlement; this may be the first time they are being held accountable and can not control the narrative
