Hello, my husband is 62 and he has severe neck and back problems that he just had a MRI and they said its severe. Hes been told now he needs triple fusion in his neck as well as lumbar surgery. He now has dropfoot from the lumbar disc messed up. He is wanting to apply for disability but we know we at least need some income during the process. If he takes early retirement and applies for disabilty at the same time, once if approved for disability will he take a percentage loss for the months he was on early retirement in the waiting approval time, or will it switch over to his 100%amount? Thank you for your help.

Is there a TIME LIMIT between the time that person can apply for age-in SS and Disability SS? I have heard that there is. I’ve had aged-in SS recipients ask if they can claim a higher check because they are disabled. They have been working past 65 on SS, become disabled and then want to apply for SSDI.

I checked on the SS website and my disability benefit would be less than my full age retirement benefit at age 67. Why is that?

If approved for disability, you are eligible for Medicaid after 29 months from your onset date, where normally you would not be eligible until age 65.
