I was unprepared for the first few days after surgery. My surgeon sent me to PT for 3 months before but the replacement felt heavy, the knee was stapled and tight, and the anesthesia took days to wear off. Thank goodness for pain killers.

The “Day After”, I was home. The nerve block and Spinal had worn off…..completely. I was seriously thinking I had made the biggest mistake of my life. My surgeon had told me to “be kind to myself for the first week. Stay on top of my pain meds and try to walk and do my post surgical exercises, but don’t stress if I couldn’t do them all in a set. Focus on keeping swelling under control ( ice & elevate) and sleep when you can. It was good advice.
I started PT the week after and it went well. No issue with range of motion. Was able to knee at 2-3 weeks.
8 weeks out, my life is already vastly improved. I had no idea how much pain I was dealing with until it was gone.

WOW, had my tkr 4 days ago now. My first phyical therapy was today. Why, I said WOW!! The pain was excruciating after the blocks & spinal wore off. But, physical therapy went "Great", considering my first home therapy. I had done 6 weeks of pre surgical knee therapy. I know this therapy did help more than I thought!! Love your videos, you have no idea how these videos made me more "Positive, Mental Attitude", going into my surgery. Thank you & do respect how you put everything from yourself into these videos. Physical Therapy will be 3 times a week for the next 3 weeks, before, going out to finish my physical therapy until May 2024!!

The day after my knee replacement, a therapist came in and grabbed my leg and pushed it up to my chest. I screamed! No warning or anything about what she was doing. Needless to say, I let them know that under no circumstances was she allowed to get near me again!

Thank you so much for this video! I've watched many from different surgeons and PT as my surgery coming up in April and getting nervous as will be on my own. No one else has brought day 1 down to such a plain and easy level to understand! I've prepared the house as much as possible but do you have a suggestion for getting off a soft couch in first days? My walker without wheels is ready, but I'm still not sure how I will be able to get up and my dining chairs don't have arms. Did I hear u say I can weight bear? So should be able to press foot down to the floor while getting up? Other knee pretty bad although have been doing exercises. Thx again!
