Turkish food and Middle Eastern food in general is very good.

During 1850s, döner was invented by a Turkish inventor and restauranteur İskender Iskenderoğlu in Bursa, a city in Western Anatolia (now Türkiye). Before that meat skewers were placed horizontally against charcoal. When the meat is cooked vertically however, it stays extremely juicy. Shortly after that food vendors embraced this new ‘invention’ on the streets of Constantinople, then it quickly spread to the other parts of Ottoman Empire such as Greece, Levant, then it was eventually brought to Latin America by Iraqi and Lebanese immigrants in early 1900s. Both Gyro, Shawarma and Al Pastor are variations of Döner. ‘Gemüse Döner’ in Germany is probably the latest variant introduced in late 1960s by Turkish guest workers in West Germany.
