120mm DM33 (Leopard 2A4) vs T-90A with ERA | Armor Penetration Simulation

"The DM33 round was introduced in 1987 and perhaps is the most widely used 120mm tank round in the world.
Compared to its predecessor DM33 features a further elongated and thinner penetrator.
It also received a break-off tip to improve performance against complex targets.
However it was not able to deal with the best soviet tanks of its time, due to its inability to reliably defeat Kontakt-5 ERA, which was demonstrated in the Swedish tank trials in the early 90ies.
The propellant was once again modified, making it more consistent under different temperature conditions."

The impact of the ERA is demonstrated well in the simulation. Although the DM33 is a relatively old munition, it is capable of penetrating even more modern armor. However, the reactive armor mitigated a significant portion of its effects.

nice! I would love to see the T-90M Proryv-3 against more modern DM53, DM63 or M829

Great video. I'd love a closeup of the ERA working, to better see the difference

The small difference between being dead and not dead.

This upper front plate is T-72B from 1989. T-90A is no different in that regard

What is SHA armor? Not the CHA (Cast Homogeneous Armor)?

now I see why I cant pen Russian tanks in War Thunder

Dm 53 vs proryv. Аlso we need tests of 3bm60 svinets 2, against 2a6 or m1abramms in different points

yea, but who shoots on the front plates ?

I've seen several vids of the T-90/72B armor like this vs the T-80U hull armor layout and I definitly think the T-80U armor is much better against long rod penetrators. The 5 layer design on the T-80U puts more pressure and penetrator when it passes through the different chunks of material vs the T-90 armor which is in all reality just mostly solid steel. The air gap and thin rubber sheets dont do much against the sabot.

Do how т90 and t80 penetrates Abrams, leopard, Challenger, leclerk))

In this video, the dynamic defense works like a simple tin can. There are other laws of physics at work here.😄😄😆

I thought the T-90A had composite armor. The simulation only showed RHA and ERA

Is there a website where you make these or did you make this in something like blender?

Can you tell us on which Leopard 2 gun has applied this graphics? For old L44 gun or newer L55

Cool so long as I never hear a stupid voice over to narrate the video I will like and subscribe

Эту визуализацию каждый канал крутит. На ней не показано как урановые снаряды действуют на солдат, в чьих машинах они заряжены, не показаны результаты пробития, танк после пробития не всегда уничтожен

hi, how long did the model calculation take?

Nice, now what about m829a3 or 4
Edit, so far in the war in uK not many tanks have better era

All those simulations with Armor/Armor Protection, then came the Loitering Drones making Leopards, Abrams, T-90s tin cans needing Protection Cages! 😂😂

The tungsten penetrator does not get deflected at ALL by the steeply angled plate? In fact, it is turning inwards, rather than being deflected? Is it because of the effect of the steel cap, or the whole thing is bs?
