Chase (another answer to everyone's big question...)

Sometimes, I answer questions several times because different ways of answering hit different people in different ways. I hope some people "get it" after this.

The problem is if he chased her, she wouldn't want him. She just wants to know someone wants her without having to be with someone.

I remember, in my late 20's, I was in a long term relationship.
I ignored all of the red flags.
If she was upset with me, she'd tell me about one of her past boyfriends and how he would never do what I did.
About a year into the relationship she stopped having sex with me. I thought it was just a phase we'd have to work through.
She hated her job and I assumed that was why she seemed so different from when we first started dating.
With me, she always seemed... tired to see me. But excited if her friends called and wanted to hang out.

Just a couple of months after our 1 year anniversary, she finally says, "Do you know why I showed interest you? I saw you in the library every day, reading books and doing your assignments. I thought you were going to be rich and we'd have so much money."
She then said that we should go our separate ways and to NOT chase her.
I moved out that same day. Two months later she starts blowing up my phone with hateful texts for not chasing her.
Needless to say I changed my number and never looked back.

I think the problem is that the phrases "I don't think we're right for each other" and "I need you to validate this relationship because I'm feeling lonely in here and need your attention" both come out as "I think we should break up." We're just too damn tired to bother trying to decipher which is which.

The difference is the direction of the projection. If i as a man, after the phone call ever thought to myself "huh, i ACTUALLY would like to go out" i assume that the problem is me, that i have lost touch with my emotions or, that for some reason I am abnormally emotional today. It's my fault, I am the problem, and the solution is to call my friend back and see if the offer is still on the table. In contrast women seem to project the problem onto the other person, that somehow the other person should have known her emotional desires and then pressed the issue.

This is why Stoicism is so important to having a healthy relationship with your emotions. Allowing your rational self to evaluate emotions prevents a ton of irrational decisions. Homegirl just feels hurt he didn’t even care she dumped him. The issue is she might have dumped him because she didn’t know if he cared, and now she will never know. Gotta love emotions getting in the way of our own prosperity.
