The manager at my local Auto Zone is a great guy. He knows cars. I think that makes the biggest difference.

When I had an '84 Chevy Citation, it had a problem where the steering had power boost to the left, but not to the right. Several rebuilders wrote about this. The valve in the rack and pinion was just bored into the aluminum, and would wear out quickly. Most had a solution of boring it out, then installing a brass or stainless sleeve, and they would last longer than the originals. In this case, rebuilt was much better!

Here's another battery tip. Turn the headlights off before starting the engine when it's cold out. So many people with Toyotas just leave the headlight switch on, and they start the engine with the headlights draining the limited battery current at the same time. Not good for the starter. Probably not good for the battery.

Thanks for the tip. I use Rock Auto, and the have been good to me. They also offer Denso parts for my Toyota and Subaru. Keep up the good work Scotty!

I've seen how people drive around streets on the ground. The thought of some of the same people driving flying cars makes me consider building a bunker and staying there until I die. LOL!

You are hilarious Scotty. My favorite YouTube mechanic. If you retire think about being a stand up comedian or a sit down one. I've learned a lot from you but I have no tools. So to another mechanic I go.

I'm in Quebec province and we do have Napa but also lot of other banners. My commercial account was opened at Uni-Select and I save up to 60% on some parts. The guy behind the counter who opened my account was with me at mechanic school.

I've used the headlight trick too, only I just turn the car "on" for a few seconds before starting it. It seems to work for getting a few more starts out of a battery that's on its way out.

YES SIR! Its been a life saver with my police interceptor specially with the wire diagrams. it actually has all the specs for the radios, etc.... Don’t know what i’d do with out it and surprisingly everyone i’ve mentioned it to hasn’t heard of it. 🤷🏼‍♂️

A technique I learned for very cold weather(under 10 degrees F) is rotate the key to "On" for few seconds the rotate then key to " Start". It isn't perfect, but if the battery is still good it does get the juices flowing.
