The Chinese ships are manufactured using ''SOFT'' Chinese steel. We saw this recently when a Chinese Coast Guard ship collided with a Philippian Coast Guard ship, manufactured in Japan. I have said this many different times in many different forums. The Chinese are the Kings of Bluffing. Don't believe anything they say, claim, or build just because they said, claimed, or built it.

"6:35 Japan and South Korea's primary vessels are all US-built " ==> No. The US is not exporting any ships.

However, the US weapon systems are widely used. Radar, sonar, missile (with VLS, vertical launching system), CIWS(the rapid gun for close defense), or torpedo.

Still the US systems are not the only solution. There are good French, German, Japanese and South Korean systems. For example, all of these countries produce the most sophisticated kind of torpedo, 'turbulence homing-in heavy torpedo’.

Even the most sophisticated ship-based missile/air defense systems (Lockheed Martin's Aegis) are being substituted by comparable or better indigenous ones in Japan and South Korea.

The accumulated tonnage of Chinese ships (when you take out those in the Coast Guard and for landing) is less than half (or one-third) of that of the US.

However, the speed of building is terrifying and the destroyers and nuclear submarines are getting better and better.

The US has a big headache to cope with this rapid expansion by China. Thus the US recently (last week) hired a South Korean ship builder for maintenance and repair (MRO) so that the US shipyards can focus on building new ships, not distracted by repair jobs. And the US Navy invited Japanese and South Korean shipbuilders to take over a few US shipyards so that less strategic naval ships can be built in those US shipyards operated by the local subsidiaries of Japanese and South Korean companies. A South Korean company just bought the Philadelphia Shipyard.

The moon landing was a major victory that we won because of our money and technology but it was close.
