The Ottoman invasion of Europe was truly challenged for the first time during the Battle of Kosovo of 1389. The Serbs and other Balkan peoples alongside their allies from Western and Eastern Europe fought valiantly against overwhelming odds and although they lost, the foundation of the future resistance, that continued until the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire, was set. This battle was also remarkable due to the fact that leaders of both armies were killed during it. Prince Lazar Hrebeljanović died in the battle and Sultan Murad I was assassinated by the Serbian knight Miloš Obilić, who was killed shortly after. All three are considered martyrs by their people and the spirit of this battle is still part of the bitter animosity…

The Balkans never stop fighting, not in the battlefield, not in the comment section...

What a battle man! The sultan dies and the serbian king dies too. It's all or nothing for both sides.

I lived in Serbia for 3 years as a Turk. I didn't encounter racism. Sometimes, old people didn't want to speak me when he/she learned I am a Turk but generally, they were pretty good to me. Здраво from Turkey

As a turk, i must say that the serbs have been tough to fight. They have resisted Every foreign power. Hardy people.

Every comment praising Serbs during the battle of Kosovo in 1389 somehow turns into an argument about the 90s

Finally has someone decided to acknowledge the importance and significance of this battle by making such a detailed and informative video about it, although some of the maps presented in the video were a bit rough and misleading.
But nevertheless, amazing work!

It dosent matter if your Serbian or Turkish. You have to respect the fact that both sides went into battle with swords, spears, bows and axes and fought in close quarters combat, and their leaders died fighting as now in 2020 we have men in the world that need safe spaces, hugs, and soy Oh if only the Sultan and Lazar could see us now, they would be so proud of how far we come.

Awesome video. Been meaning to write something on the Battle of Kosovo for a long time. This is a really great take on it.

Today I learned that they had cannons back then.

Typical balkan behaviour.. arguing amongst eachother when the real enemy sits from a distance looking at us and laughing whilst eating popcorn.

wow, I am amazed with the amount of comments of hate and insults shared here. Folks, you all claim to be historians, politicians, scientists, and certainly very knowledgeable in many fields. I'd recommend that you refrain from this back and forth nonsense. Instead, use your time better, do something to serve the community positively, and certainly don't get hung up in the past - look ahead everyone, build a better future for yourselves and your countries!!!

You could have mentioned Armenians, who first served in the Ottoman army, but hearing they will fight against Christians, they joined the Serbs.

Gotta love the Balkans. Seems like everyone there knows their history pretty well. Might hate each other a lil but whatever...

This channel is incredibly neutral and tries to present facts and other historical accounts to educate without being bias and leaning towards any agenda. Mainstream history channel networks and History channel in particular should become irrelevant one day due to growing popularity of youtube channels like this one. Bravo and subscribed!
