Sounds criminal to me.. Taking their money knowing that some wont get to practice through no fault of their own. Now they are in debt for all that. Do the right thing --forgive their loans

We need more doctors in Canada. I don't understand why there are so few residency programs.

Meanwhile, how many Canadians don't have a doctor due to the shortage of doctors! This entire medical system seriously needs an overhaul!

When you finish med school in Germany you can apply to any hospital and do that specialisation you want to do lol You don't have this match process here. Also, you just need to pay about 200-300€ each semester until graduation. So you only pay abou 4000€ for the whole med school! I think the system is very well here

How about not accepting more students than residency spots available.

I don't think our medical graduates have this problem in the US. It's tragic that doctor killed himself because he didn't get accepted in a residency program.

Walk away???? From hundreds of thousands of debt? Can they not go outside the country to practice?

Allow all Canadian students to match first before international medical graduates. Tax payers subsidize medical education; therefore, they get first choice.

Total medical graduates: 6600
Total Residency spots: 6000
Go figure. So sad. Annual statistics.

"150, 000"? I'm like 45000 in debt and I'm hyperventilating

Why would you allow foreign trained medical school grad match into a Canadian residency before a Canadian grad? That is utterly nonsensical.

I hope that after this pandemic people who control the medical field (higher ups) will think really deeply about giving more opportunities to those who want to be doctors. At least have a residency spot for students who actually went through those 4 grueling years of med school and passed their medical entrance exams! There needs to be more flexibility and opportunities! I agree you should have a level of knowledge but at the same time you can't just look at grades and decide whether or not they land a surgery residency or family medicine residency or no residency at all! How do you decide who gets the residency spot or not? Do I have to be related to someone ?? sounds very suspicious, and it is kind of keeping me from pursuing it. It is just not fair, look at the whole person and at least give these residents readily available opportunities . So I speak to you, change the system, or be up for the consequences.

I'm so glad I switched out of my dreams of becoming a doctor. You spend 5 years getting Bachelors, then approx 3-4 years again doing med school and then there is no guarantee that you can be a doctor in Canada. Why take a risk? But this is also probably why our wait times are soo long

We need to go with the Missouri option and make them assistant physicians (and no I don't mean physician assistants look it up)

I cringe when I see health care providers examining patients thru their clothing.

It is quite unfortunate that despite the lack of doctors in our communities, our youth would experience such a thing. Hate to say this but my advice to them is to look into openings south of the border.

Come to America, doctors are never unemployed here, despite a significant number of the population not being able to afford to go to a hospital for treatment.

This shouldn’t be happening. Why are Canadians doctors not able to find residency, when we, the patients, are literally dying to get a doctor. Oh yeah, two tear system works one sidedly. Oh, and if you do find a doc, hopefully it’s one that speaks and understands English, and has similar morals, or is non judgemental.
