Guild Wars 3 was just announced.

You know it's a good day when you wake up and see news that one of the largest, most influencial, arguably most popular free to play MMOs get a confirmed sequel. That's what just happened with Guild Wars 2.
When I first mentioned NCSoft were potentially developing a Guild Wars 3, people told me I was crazy, that there was no way that could be the case.
When I followed up several years later with confirmation that NCSoft were hiring programmers to create an MMO in an already pre-existing intellectual property, people said there was no way that could be Guild Wars 2. The game is too healthy, a staple of NCSoft's roster of games, and by association, potential to make a quality game.
Yet according to multiple sources online - Inven - which documented NCSoft's shareholders' meeting on the 28th, and several websites that have since covered the reveal, Guild Wars 3 is already deep in development. Much further than any of us likely even thought possible after this announcement.

Guild Wars 3 was just announced... Are you excited? What do you want Guild Wars 3 to look like?

Going mobile/cross platform negatively affects game play in to many ways. This greed aimed at making money off all platforms with just one product is a large part of why the gaming industry has turned to garbage.

"there is no need to reinvent the wheel" is what guild wars 1 fans said in 2008, arenanet won't listen to you, I can assure you of that

I've already sunk a lot into GW 2. BUT I DON'T CARE that I'll lose all my progress/investment there! I get to experience a whole new GW game! With new characters, new stories, new systems, NEW EVERYTHING! With all they have learned from GW 1&2 they can make leaps and bounds of improvement on this one! IF THEY DON'T FIRE THE STAFF! Dumbest move they could do now is fire all the talent with decades worth of experience.

I'm hyped! <3

If they make it more like gw1 with all the skills and great story that would be awesome.

I'm interested.
I kinda hope they go back to the class system in gw1. So much build variety and player expression in that was lost when going to gw2. I still play gw1 even today every once in a while. (you guys should try and visit the game again to see how it is in 2024. Last I was in, there is still quite a bit of activity on the NA servers)

If amazon touches GW3, I'm not even going to bother. It will go in the trash bin like with all the other games amazon has managed.

This "announcement" really shows how NCSoft is detached from reality. Being a massive fan of the first two games I really hope GW3 will succeed, but if it will manage to single handedly save the company, NCSoft really does not deserve it.

When Anet announced GW2, GW1 players were so excited! They had envisioned, (based on Anets comments), that GW2 would be GW1 on steroids. I mean after all, GW1 has a fantastic system in place, but it lacked the kind of upgrades other MMO's already featured.
As history has it, GW2 turned out to be an entirely different game (Hence why some GW1 players are a bit salty) .
Good? Bad? that's subjective, and in all fairness, unless you played GW1, you cannot relate to where they're coming from.
All that said, hopefully GW3 reconciles this old rift and brings the best of both worlds together.

I’m gonna need them to go back to Freeform skill tree style from GW1. Being able to swap out your sub class & mix & match your skills from each was what made GW1 so popular!!!

I can imagine Anet in gw3 "due complication we will remove all kind of damage from gw3 everything is boons" any mob gets killed when players enters in area, or make something like swipe to win, that's how much I trust Anet since being with them since 2004, they are like a snowball of bad decisions.

In all honesty I really, really want them to do GW2 world, movement, scope, with GW1 gameplay/skillset. I think that would really set up a world that is truly set to play how you would like. Dual professions, the theory crafting would be insane. I know, sure, what about the balance, but that is their job. I think it is more than doable XD Link your attributes to the weapons, let us mess with different parts of our builds. Get rid of the stunted lines. Open the world up! :D

Personally, I look forward to the matter positively and with excitement. ANET has shown with GW1 to GW2 that it is better to go a step further at regular intervals, especially since GW2 runs on the engine of GW1 (2004).
The best negative example for me is WoW (Shadow ❤ by Cata - SL). 20 years behind it, now highly fragmented (WoW Retail, Classic, HC, SoD, Plunderstorm etc.) and, although successful, lives predominantly from its mature and not a new player base.
