Become Unconquerable | Stoic Philosophy

The ancient Stoics produced a treasure trove of wisdom on becoming unconquerable. They believed that people cannot be conquered by anything external, as long as they don’t give away the power over their faculties. The only way external things can influence us is when we, ourselves, let them. If we feel that something has defeated us, it’s us defeating ourselves on account of it. If we want to become unconquerable, we don’t need to conquer the world but ourselves.
This video explores Stoic philosophy on how to become unconquerable.

Useful advise! My father used to have a simple hillbilly stoic saying, "Son, no one will ever get your goat unless you show them where you put it."

It's funny you used Johnny Bravo as an example in the intro because if there's anyone unconquerable after hundreds of rejections, it's him.

To be unconquerable by anything, we must be willing to lose everything.

'We can lose everything, from our wealth to our freedom of movement to our reputations. But our ability to form opinions, desire, hate, accept, abstain, talk or keep silent remains our'. Another great video !

I see some people thinking that being stoic is not feeling or neglecting feelings, its not. Its about acknowledging your thoughts and feelings and not acting upon them. Often we see our thoughts as absolute truth, they are not.

Thanks for taking the time to make these videos. I wish yall the best

Man’s Search for Meaning is one of the greatest books ever written on this subject
Definitely recommend it.

Alot of people misunderstand stoicism as simply enduring the worst of things and letting things happen. That's not being stoic. That's being a doormat.

Being stoic is about being able to endure terrible things while having the capacity to do something about it.

Practicing stoicism to be independent from my immature parents feels like eternal hell, but I keep hoping that there will be light at the end of the tunnel.

"We put ourselves in the mercy of external factors" havent heard a more real quote for some time. I tried so hard to be with that one person which saw that, and used to emotionally manipulate me and play with my feelings. After some years away from that, I still say to myself "Never again will I put my feelings and life into someone elses hands".

When i lost everything i had in the 'mortgage crisis ', I had to rebuild my life from scratch . Overtime I learned to be happy with far less . After a few years, i even noticed i had far less worries because i had less to loose. .Enduring Torture however, is something that's easy to contemplate from the comfort of the couch . Not something i like to test in real life !

If you feel inadequate because someone rejects you, then you let them conquer you. You allowed your feelings to be at the mercy of someone else, when the sole person behind the wheel is truly only you. Stoic philosophy to me is about recognizing your own control, and with that, your own personal power and resilience. As I'm typing this I'm on the receiving end of rejection and it's taking all of my power not to let it get to me.

If you're naturally able to be a generally good person who wants to help others and the world and you apply this advice the best you can, i don't even know what to say but this is a fantastic combo to have and is much needed.

I have been working the majority of my adult life to achieve this exact thing! I have made great progress from the extremely reactive child I used to be to now where I no longer feel the need for the last word, or even caring about rumors folks who would slander me, though I do know when to stand up and defend myself when needed, but even then I keep it purely factual on my end, and usually let folks bury themselves. I have also been trying to impart this to my child because I feel like in todays overly emotional world, being able to react with thought and reason over simply reacting to emotions will make her unstoppable!

Stoicism is what keeps me going during my hard times. I haven't always had the words to describe it, but I am always seeking to stand tall when faced with degradation, pain, and hardship. I love learning more about what that means for me.

"What you gain, you lose and what you lose, you also gain."

Something I should have internalized a long time ago. Heard it as a teenager and never took it to heart until about a year ago.

Anger: ggrrrr
Me:....
Anger:
Me: ....
Repeat for years
My heart: 🌋
Careful kids... being angry is not bad. Reacting to it in an unthought out manner is.
Too many think stoicism means not feeling anything or being in denial of feeling anything. I can not express enough how dangerous this method is. If you do not handle your feelings and emotions it builds in the body and creates a vast array of destruction that can some times be irreversible. Make sure you have a healthy outlet. And don't lie to yourself about being angry or upset. This method can be valuable if used correctly.

I had once screamed, gradually, I lost my voice.

I had once cried, gradually, I lost my tears.

I had once grieved, gradually, I became able to withstand everything.

I had once rejoiced, gradually, I became unmoved by the world.

And now!

All I have left is an expressionless face, my gaze is as tough as a monolith, only perseverance remains in my heart.

This is my own, an insignificant character, Fang Yuan’s — Perseverance!

Stoicism lets you overcome, but it cannot make you happy.
It is a backstop

To the *incredible person* seeing this, I wish you all the best in life❤ don't over blame yourself, accept things and go forward. Don't let others define what “success” is for you. Get up, learn the skills needed and get after it, all the keys to a happy life is in your hands. Keep pushing.
