Shelf of Shame: My goal is to keep this under 10 (collection around 250 games) ... I was as high as 18 after a combination of FLGS binge + multiple Kickstarter arrivals that same month but have slowly whittled it down by really trying to play unplayed games.

Great segment Hunter!

My shelf of shame used to be much fuller (17%) but I watched a video Chaz Marler did that brought my attention to how pervasive this is (if I remember correctly, he said the most common response was 15%-19%). That made me really look at the games on my shelf and figure out why they werent making it to the table. Half of them were donated/traded and I forced my husband to play the other half and got down to a shade over 1%.

Anthony & Frances, don't forget local cons. No hotel bills! I attend a local con that is mostly a play games con that takes place 3 times a year here in Los Angeles. It's a great opportunity to try out new games. I have never been turned away when I said that I would need a teach in order to play.

I saw someone calling it Shelf of Opportunity rather ;) I currently have one game unplayed. I bought it in anticipation of one of my groups getting together, but it never happened and now it sits there waiting for an.. opportunity :D

Marriage seems to have triggered some sort of dementia for Oliver. He thinks he's been away for awhile and he's repeating himself! :)

The only games on my shelf of shame are the ones with miniatures I am not done painting and also one or two big kickstarters. So, I feel pretty good about it.

Meh Meeple - as a DM/GM you have a really easy way to tackle that: for example, in D&D 5e each round of initiative represents 6 seconds. The next time the alpha player begims doing that, stop him, remind of the 6 second rule, ans ask him if he would like to spend his turn laying out 6 seconds worth of battle plans. Assuming they dont want to, reinforce that these are supposed to be those sort of snap decisions made in that time, ask the player whise turn it is what would *Character's name* like to do. If the alpha player continues to interrupt and act as general, simply say "okay, you jumped out of turn, but you did spend the next X number of rounds of combat to talk about your plan, since you did it out or order, you won't be able to contribute for that many rounds (increase the number if they continue it). As they put up a fight about that, remind them of the 6-second rule and that each turn iavaupposes to represent what one character would do, not the entire party. If they continue to fight it, DMs always have meteors. ;)

Another way as a DM could be to be very blatant in saying "well, since these monsters overheard your yelled orders, they will respond in this way" and then give that character absolutely no quarter. Goblins see the leader and attack him, assuming everyone else will flee once he is gone, like goblins do..mor whatever. If the alpha player is going to make it a 1v1 game, show him why doesn't want that to happen. You are DM.

The ironic thing about the short pitch is that nobody seems to be as bad at doing it as publishers. It never ceases to amaze me, every time I watch the GAMA coverage, etc., how terrible publishers are at pitching their own games.

Going to a convention with someone like Frances would be a waste of time for me because i'd want to spend the entire time in the hotel room.

Personally, I would say a much better match for Casino Royale would be City of Spies Estoril 1942. It has Seduction and Assassination actions for the spies, Russians, Germans and British spies. It’s set in the time period Fleming actually worked in naval intelligence and one of the location tiles is even a Casino!
