I definitely have challenges in teaching games since they are often new to me as well. And it is difficult to find the time to just become an expert on a game so that I can teach it effectively. I think publishers who invest in great rules video producers do themselves and their customers a great service. Learning from both a rules video and the rulebook helps tremendously.

I keep a small box of components that are left out of the box up on top of my game shelf. When it gets full, I go through and out them all away.

100% correct Tom! Loki started out great and sputtered to the finish. I give it a 6.5/10. Whereas WandaVision was an 8/10. Falcon&Winter Soldier probably around 6.5 as well for me.

@tabletop rebellion, I really enjoyed your segment. I too like wooden meeples, and now I want those unique animals! I'll probably like the game too. In fact I recently requested Baren Park at my FLGS, having remembered playing it at a pre-covid convention.

Tabletop Toolbox, great job on your segment! I bought Rush M.D. a few weeks ago, haven't brought it out to play yet. Very clever skit. :)

Yea tom I didn't do brilliantly at school I am in my mid 50's now
And learned more later in life and got my grades later on
Then I found out about different learning types
Ie reading doing watching and most people have a mix of the 3
Well I am more of a doing learner i would say 45% doing 45% watching 10% reading
And when I found out my learning style it helped me a lot both in life and with games

Thumbs up on the box bands. Look (and no doubt perform) so much have better than rubber bands.

It is absolutely true that just doing something, anything, and paying attention will usually teach you everything you need to know about "what to do". How many times have you gotten halfway through and said "oh, I get it now!". I prefer to just learn enough to get going. Really just the first few moves are difficult. After that the game usually tells you what to do :).

Having had Tom teach me Western Legends and Vindication at the first retreat, I can definitely say that Tom is an excellent game teacher. By the time he left, we understood enough that we could use the manual and immediately figure out any questions we had, without having to call him back over. My group learns in 2 ways, first, I learn the game and then teach it, while sending a link of a video where folks can get an idea of how to play. Or, we actually, sometimes, learn at the table from the manual. Surprisingly we have had a great time both ways. This is group dependent though
