How To Choose The Right Regulator-Rectifier For Lithium-Ion Batteries

If you are switching to a lithium-ion battery, choosing the right regulator/rectifier is very important. Lithium-ion batteries are a lot more sensitive than lead-acid batteries when it comes to charging them. I recently ran into this problem, so in this video I'm going to explain to you how a regulator/rectifier works and how to choose the right one for your lithium-ion battery.

Hello from Japan. I always look forward to your videos.
I too am always staring at the voltmeter when I am riding my R100. I would like to update my regulator someday.

I've gone for the lithium Rick's reg/rec but planning on keeping standard charging system with enduralast electronic Ign system

I am a bit confused as to why a special rectifier regulator is needed. Most units for lead acid limit at 14.2V surely this is in the range for the lithium technology. None of the rectifier regulator specified for lithium have published detailed specification and they cost ten times as much. I would like to know the difference.

Yeah, went down the same black hole myself when changing over to lithium. Got a ricks motorsport one, works great. Need to upgrade my charging system now. Why did you go with a vape system and not something like the brushless set from euro motor electrics?

I thought that good quality Lithium batteries contained a Battery Management System (BMS) that will control the exact voltage passed to the battery cells irespective of the voltage coming from the Reg/Rec.??
I have been told the same information as you from a reseller of charging equipment, however, On the SkyRich (Lithim Battery Manufacturer) web site it states that their batteries can be charged at any voltage below 15v but above 14v. Standard lead acid batteries are regulated to aprox 14.4v to14.6v, so that should sit exactly within the SkyRich specification without changing the reg/rec.
I guess the manufactures should know how their batteries work?

Hey ! Do you need the diode board anymore when installing a modern regulator like yours ?
Cheers

Hi really enjoying your informative videos.
I have a question if that is ok.
Would this regulator- rectifier work with a
Traditional r80 charging system, obviously
For a ultrabatt.
Thank you for your time.
Kind regards Karl
