Method 1: Check the Recycle Bin
1. From your desktop or File Explorer, locate and open the Recycle Bin.
2. Select the file(s) you want to recover.
3. Right-click the selected files and choose "Restore," or simply drag them out of the Recycle Bin to your desired location.
4. If you've deleted files accidentally, you can use the Ctrl + Z shortcut to instantly undelete them.

Method 2: Undelete Files Using Data Recovery Software
To restore permanently deleted files on Windows 11 using Disk Drill:
2. Ensure the drive containing the missing files is connected to your PC (SD cards, USB drives, external hard drives, etc.).
3. Launch Disk Drill and select the drive from the disk list.
4. Click "Search for lost data" and wait for the scan to complete.
5. Review the recovered files, preview them if needed, and select the ones you want to recover.
6. Click "Recover," choose a different location (not the one you're recovering from), and hit "Next" to export the files.

Method 3: Utilize Previous Versions
Note: This method requires that "Previous Versions" was enabled on your Windows 11 PC before the files were lost to restore deleted files on Windows 11.
1. Open File Explorer.
2. Navigate to the location of the folder that contained the missing files.
3. Right-click the folder, select "Properties."
4. In the dialog window, click "Previous Versions."
5. Choose a restore point and date, then click "Restore."

Method 4: Use File History
Note: File History must have been enabled on your Windows 11 PC for this method to undelete files on Windows 11.
1. Open Windows settings.
2. Type "File History" and select "Restore your files with File History" from the options.
3. Navigate through the folders and icons to find the files you want to restore.
4. Select the items and click the Green Arrow to restore them.

To enable File History on Windows 11 for future use, follow these steps:
1. Go to the Control Panel from the Start menu.
2. Under "System and Security," select "File History."
3. Configure File History with a separate drive to save files.

Method 5: Recover files using Windows File Recovery
1. Download the Windows File Recovery Tool from the Microsoft Store and install it.
2. Ensure the drive with the missing files is connected.
3. Open the Windows File Recovery Tool and enter the following command: winfr C: D: /regular
replacing "C" with the drive letter of your missing files and "D" with the drive letter to save the recovered files.

In Windows 11, you can also restore your Microsoft Store apps and OneDrive folders.

You are a god. Thank you! I cleaned up my desktop and emptied my Recycle bin yesterday. Today I realized I had inadvertently deleted a complex spreadsheet I was working on from my desktop. The File History did not work for me and in fact showed it is turned off. However, the Previous Version worked like a charm. I was able to restore a version from 7 days ago. I did lose a little bit of recent data, but I have 99% of data intact. Thank you!

Hi, I have a corrupted hard disk, and I tried to recover it using another product. However, some of the recovered files are unable to open due to a corrupted format, especially Excel files. Can Disk Drill recover and fix corrupted files? Thanks

I tried to get my files back using Windows recovery tool, but it's so complicated 😓 Thank you for providing an easier alternative - I had to recover only some important photos, so Disk Drill did a great job and I didn't even need to pay.

I cannot execute Disk Drill due to restriction from company IT. Is there any other way to recover permanently deleted folders without downloading and executing an app?
