Journey: Neal Schon on seeing Steve Perry at 2017 Rock Hall Induction Ceremony

Journey co-founder and guitarist Neal Schon sat down with WKYC anchor Russ Mitchell 3 days before the band's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction ceremony and talked about what it would be like to see Steve Perry, the band's former front man.

Neal...that was a very touching thing to say and I was THERE to see you say it and then DO IT!!! Kudos to you and Steve for such a wonderful speech. I just wish the petition would have had some real fire power but it was a POWERFUL testament on the legacy to Steve, and I love it that you two embraced for real. I Love Neal and Gregg but ... Journey was a locally followed band until Perry came along. ..his voice took them places they never even imagined... you can disagree but that doesn't make it so...almost every member has said so much themselves they know the Magic of Steve, s voice with Neals guitar made the magic that is still timeless music today. .Steve Perry is THE VOICE! that made Journey. ..And That's a Fact. .maybe you should listen to Neal again he knows that. .. Neal’s demeanor immediately went from smiles to discomfort at the mention of Steve Perry. I suspect there’s a riff, but Steve Perry is the reason why Neal is where he is today and I think it’s always rubbed him the wrong way because the one constant in Journeys history has been Neal…except he could only get to the pinnacle with Steve

The Band did Steve WRONG. Those of us from the beginning (I'm talking about the days Journey played local fairs) know how this went down and continue to show loyalty and LOVE to Steve Perry. One of the greatest vocalist of all time!!! It was GREAT to see him share in the overdue and well deserved honor!

Fast forward a few years later... And Steve is back with a new album and sounding better than ever.

I loved Journey. I went to dozens of concerts back in the day. No one knew who Journey was till Perry joined them. His talent took them to the fame they have enjoyed. Perry had to have surgery. He did not simply say oh, I just don't want to tour. They could have waited for him to recover. I mean they are still touring to this day and people still love & want Perry so I think they could have postponed the tour and still been ok. Remember when Def Leopard just stopped touring when the drummer lost his arm? Did they replace him? No. They stood by him and waited for him to not only recover, but to do something no one thought possible; learn to play drums with on arm! Neal saw a way to ditch Perry. He is and always has come off as an ass and I have seen him at concerts try to upstage Steve and even stand right in front of him on stage. Even though Steve made them famous Neal wants the limelight. He is an amazing guitarist, but has always acted like a cocky jerk. Unfortunately, even if they have all mended fences, Perry can no longer sing like he use to. Very sad, but true, so he can't tour with them or do anything on his own. I hate this. I love Steve Perry, always have, but he just can't do it.

Steve Perry is one of the best vocalists ever if not the best. Journey started off as a progressive rock band. I did like the first albums they made but when Steve was added they catapulted into one of the greatest bands of all time.

I was 12-13 yo when Frontiers came out in 1983 and Journey was plastered all over MTV and constantly on the radio. That album, those songs, that time was always be cherished. It's a shame things couldn't work out with Steve and the group but I'm just glad I had that.

I have been a Steve Perry since I was 12 now Im 47 saw the band 13 times. I do give regard to Arnel he has nothing but love for Steve and Steve will be back I may have to show up in my walker and him too but i will def be there
