There is a greater sense of achievement when you can make something without spending money and using the fabric you already have.

Wow Claire, another corker of a video! Loved all of it and most of it applied to me! What really resonated with me was your number 8, looking at other people and their perfect makes (with perfect figures) and feeling somewhat demoralised! I soon stopped doing that, because it can be soul destroying thinking you will never be as good as that. But sewing like everything else is about learning not just how to sew a garment, but managing your own expectations. I’m a fairly new sewist but getting better all the time and watching your channel is so refreshingly honest and authentic and helps me such a lot. I know these videos must take a lot of work, but honestly, I’m sure I’m not the only one who looks forward to your content, so please keep them coming. Marie x

Claire, It was so good to see you confident and energetic today. I love love love tip #9. I find that I tend to make more mistakes when I try to do too much at once. I am making fitted diapers and I would cut 3-4 at a time and edge stitch 2 at each session at the machine. This is supposed to be a hobby to be enjoyed not endured. Thanks for being a realistic media presence.

I just feel like a prizefighter in the ring. The blows of the pattern tracing are over. That might be it for today. Next day…a muslin so I do not waste a fabric I love with the wrong fit. Then the pattern adjustment. The cutting out of the fabric. And on and on. A week at a minimum and you have a beautiful dress 👗! Great suggestions!!!

Thank you for these tips. I am in the process of de-stashing my fabrics and patterns. I am finding the less sewing “stuff” I have to see or manage, the more I feel like actually sewing. I am also a one project at a time person. Batch sewing overwhelms me and is difficult for me. This was such a helpful video and I love your channel.

I am a one project at a time person. Some years ago I went through many of the processes you are describing. In general this is how I approach life in general, and I know it works for me.

Like you, Claire, I am NOT a batch sewer. I sew one thing, clean up my sewing room, dust down my sewing machine and make sure that all my bits and bobs are organized. Once that is done, I pick the next project. I do, however, make sure I have everything I need before I start, and have everything gathered together before I cut the fabric. Right now, I'm planning a fall module (1 topper, 3 tops, 2 bottoms) and, most likely, a winter coat. Seeing all of the wonderful summer patterns really tries my resolve, but I don't want autumn to come round and find me unprepared!

You're a mind reader Claire! I was just sitting here with a cuppa and my phone thinking I have no time today to work on my new project, lol. Of course I could be working on it right now for a few minutes between chores and errands, duh.😆 What a silly goose I am.

I haven’t gone into my sewing room for a couple of weeks. I’ve gotten everything in a place where it’s put away but easily accessible, but, there are things on my sewing table that I can’t for the life of me, put away, or even find a place for. It’s so stressful.

You hit so many nerves with this vlog Claire, I definitely need to plan my makes and to assemble all the things needed, I buy fabric without a project in mind all the time🙄 it definitely has to stop!

These tips are great, and really help me to look at how I sew.
It’s easy to choose whether to batch sew or do one project at a time. If a make has a lot of changing needles, feet, or stitch settings, I batch sew. I can even batch sew within some patterns, by doing an Order-of-Work plan to group the feet and stitches together where possible.

Great vlog Claire! It is just so perceptive and thought provoking. I guess it’s because we have all been there! 🤣 Ive been through a radical declutter as well. Ive still got to sort out my pdf patterns and get the last of them logged on Trello. I had my colours analysis done just before lockdown and have also lost a lot of weight so really had to go back to basics and create a new wardrobe in my now, style and colours. I planned out the patterns, fabrics and colour scheme I would use so I knew everything would match and be worn. That has been very uplifting mentally just to clear the decks and start afresh! ❤️ I tried batch sewing and found I got distracted by changes in the weather, a shiny new pattern etc and ended up with several projects I then didn’t want to do because the season had changed etc 🤣 As I have become more experienced in my sewing, I am finding I want to do slower and more mindful sewing, so the end garment fits and looks so much better, rather than banging them out! Thank you for the insights x
