Many parts of Newark are actually getting super expensive. Like Brooklyn, people are willing to deal with the sh*t for an easy commute to NYC. There is now a Whole Foods and like 10 vegan restaurants so it's not nearly as bad as it was only 5 years ago. Gentrification is happening fast.

I live in Newark, growing up here and being Asian can be tough since I was the only Asian kid in all my schools I’ve went to. But tbh Newark isn’t THAT bad and most of the times it’s just bad timing that would get you into any type of trouble.

Born and raised in Newark, New Jersey. I hated it growing up. Filled with drugs and crime. SOME of the people acted like absolute animals. I feel so bad for the good people that are stuck there. The place is just run down. Horrible place to be. I’m so glad I made it out of there.

I grew up, ages 6 to 11, in the North Ward of Newark in the 1950s. We lived there because my tightwad father refused to have a mortgage, and he was able to buy a small residence for peanuts. What made things worse was, I would spend summers on a dairy farm in rural Massachusetts, and on Labor day have to come back to Newark. I earned my bachelors degree and two post graduate degrees in Newark schools, and then, like an idiot, worked there for almost 20 years. I finally came to my senses and moved away to Vermont. Surprisingly, sections of Newark are having a real estate revival. High taxes and widespread political corruption are the norm in Newark, as is the case of all New Jersey. But as bad as Newark is, compared to Camden or Paterson, Newark is like Paris.

2. Cheaper than living in New York
3. Can easily commute to any major city within the US due to the airport, train station, and overall location.
4. Jersey is the only state in the country where people seem to be proud of where they're from
5. So many great people and things have come out of Newark to contribute to sports, music, law, etc.
